I personally would say..depends on your browser of choice. I used to use chrome but tried about 20 different browsers over the course of a few weeks. I now use Microsoft Edge and dont beat me for saying this but I wont use another browser currently. Really good security and choice of settings. Brave browser is also great for a visually appealing minimalist super secure browser. So in my opinion as long as you are using a good secureable browser then NO you dont need the MBAM Browser Guard. Only my Opinion.

I have the extension turned on in both Chrome profiles and on all my other systems (non-Win11). It works well and for the few sites that I want to support with ad revenue, I just turn off the blocker for those sites.

No content blocker is "required" as many have said, it's a matter of personal choice.

The Chromium browsers are good but I'm not a fan of the heavy marketing and tracking of Google and Microsoft so I opt for Firefox. There are many other browser choices but one has to consider maintenance on the browser as well. Many of the smaller project browsers don't have a large cadre of programmers to keep up with the many security issues that all browsers encounter. Look at Microsoft, they have coded a couple of different iterations of browsers over the past few decades but have sort of thrown in the towel and gone with Chromium as the base and then code their changes on top of that. Every day all of the main browsers have exploits or bugs reported.

To help reduce marketing, tracking, Ads, redirects, etc. I use uBlock Origin as I believe it is probably the best available content blocker out there. They recommend that you don't use other content blockers alongside their extension but I do use the Malwarebyte Browser Guard as it blocks different content that uBlock Origin does not. There is overlap, but so far in my experience from the past couple years of use of both extensions running alongside each other has been positive and no noticeable or obvious conflicts. At a deep code-level analysis, one might find some type of anomaly but again I've not noticed any such behavior in practice, YMMV.

One great example of using Content blocking is on the YouTube site. One can watch videos without the constant Ads pushed out. If you find you want to allow or support Ads on the site it's very easy to disable Ad blocking or other content-blocking on the site.

There are still many sites that attempt to make changes to your browser or redirect you via mouse over, under, javascript, etc. and these Content Blockers help prevent that. uBlock Origin is extremely configurable. Malwarebytes Browser Guard is not as configurable but does a pretty decent job of hands-off blocking.

Browsers today have already started adding some level of content blocking into their base code. That alone shows how large an issue rogue, bad marketing practices, etc are out there. At this time though none of the browsers do enough blocking and why I use and recommend both of these extensions.

AdvancedSetup is right you are not required to have any blocker you can just be very careful what you click on or download like I said it's just a matter of choice

Is this extension required or should be uninstalled?
It is basically an additional AV, you can have more than one, like Bitdefender, Emsisoft and such.
Then again browsers have the same feature, Chrome has googlesafebrowsing, Edge has smartscreen.
You can also use a safer DNS, it has zero impact on performance, Quad9 or NextDNS are currently top.

Hello, Alexey.

It's totally up to you. Personally, I use no extensions. I'm using Edge browser, locked down pretty tight. I've had no issues at all.

Good luck, and take care.

It's not a matter of being careful. Myself, I do not want to watch Ads on every site I visit. Without some type of Content blocker, you will spend countless hours encountering ADS. If you're okay with seeing Ads and content you cannot easily bypass then okay but I'd rather not see them is all.

True. One can use adguard DNS instead.

Firefox does a lot of tracking too.
I have read studies that say the amount of tracking is about equal between Edge and Firefox. Chrome is the big offender.

Nahhh. Too tedious and wasteful. I also threw away my tin hat.
Thats okay if you have weighed the pros and cons for your needs. For me, it is absolutely essential and I find nothing tedious or wasteful about it. On the contrary, it is a great solution for my needs.

Firefox does a lot of tracking too.
Yes, out of the box it does, but not even close to the amount of Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. Neither browser gives you much ability to opt-out of said tracking or Ads. Firefox does allow you to turn it off, it's just on by default. But with the use of other content blockers and firewall settings, Firefox has no tracking from me. Firefox does have compartmentalization out of the box now, but I've been using Containers now for at least a couple of years or more and they work great too.

As many have said. All of these things are personal choices. Nothing is perfect and if I were all that bothered I'd run Qubes OS. Not doing anything illegal, so simply slowing down some of the trackings is enough for me. Windows 10 and now Windows 11 are almost purpose-built machines for tracking. If someone is worried about their browser that much but not about running Windows 10 or Windows 11 then they're missing a huge piece of the pie on tracking.

Better methods to help curtail tracking if one is really that bothered.

Setup a Pi-hole DNS box or a pfSense firewall externally from your OS.
Use Tails

It's not a matter of being careful. Myself, I do not want to watch Ads on every site I visit. Without some type of Content blocker, you will spend countless hours encountering ADS. If you're okay with seeing Ads and content you cannot easily bypass then okay but I'd rather not see them is all.
I didn't say that I didn't use :I use AdBlocker ultimate,DUCKDUCKGO,Malwarebytes,and AdBlock Plus.It's a matter of choice

Hi,
If you have mbam pro/ premium you already have web protection On by default so this additional browser guard add-on is not necessary
I personally skip this feature when mbam asks on updating new versions.

Just right click mbam icon in the action center and you'll see the list of protections
