If not, apparently you should find it (and may be able to delete it) in:
C:\Program Files\SMART Technologies\SMART Board Drivers\

If you can't delete it because it's in use, then boot to a command prompt then you should be able to delete it.

I found neither the HID nor the file searching the entire system. The driver is still showing. I guess I can live without that feature. Thanks for the assistance.

Drivers will be loaded by an entry in the registry. Try searching the registry for "SMARTVHidMini" as it may be using a slightly different name. If you find it there don't delete the registry key, not yet. Look at its contents and you should see a path to where the driver is stored.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

I had this happen when trying to get a W10 pc to use MI, the drivers were AMD and there were no new drivers available, so I didn't fancy deleting them. All my W11 pc's have had the core isolation done thanks to Brinks help.

I had a similar problem with an old 2017 WD driver wdcsam64.sys on my Surface Laptop and got rid of it following these instructions so I could use memory integrity:


Process:


  1. Open up command prompt (CMD) as an administrator
  2. type in “pnputil /?” without the quotation marks and hit enter.
    2a. This will show you all the parameters and what they do. Helps a novice figure things out.
  3. type in “pnputil /enum-drivers” without the quotation marks and hit enter.
    3a. This shows all the third party drivers installed. Find the drivers and that correspond to the incompatible drivers from memory isolation. You can get more details by clicking on the incompatible driver in memory isolation.
    3b. Confirm the drivers match and jot down the details of the drivers
  4. type in “pnputil /enum-devices /connected” without the quotation marks and hit enter.
    4a. To make sure the incompatible drivers aren’t being used, go through all the devices and check if the incompatible driver is listed by “Driver Name.” This part was annoying but made me less worried about breaking something.
  5. After confirming you’re in the clear, type in “pnputil /delete-driver oem#.inf /uninstall /force /reboot” without the quotation marks and hit enter.
    5a. Substitute oem#.inf with whatever your driver is causing problems.
    5b. Do this for each driver, one at a time, changing oem#.inf to match as you go along
    5c. /uninstall makes sure the driver is uninstalled; /force makes sure the driver is deleted, not a problem for us since we made sure it wasn’t being used; /reboot will restart the computer if deleting the driver requires it.

finally figured it out. The key here is the tool PnPUtil. I used this post as a launching point. I did not see a single other way to remove this out of date, useless, broken Western Digital Driver. Not sure if this solution will work for everyone; it worked for me and I’ve included my thought...

That looks like a rather complicated way to remove that WD driver, I just opened Device Manager and set it to show hidden devices.

Windows Update will keep offering it as an optional update. You may like to use wushowhide.diagcab to hide it, as I have done.

I tired device manager showing hidden devices and I still couldn't find it. Apparently that old useless WD driver was giving a lot of people grieve trying to use memory integrity. The instructions look a little intimidating but actually weren't to hard to follow. It helped that the problemitic WD driver was at the end of the list and I just had to sub the driver number, in my case oem46.inf into the final command.

Yes, it's probably the number one cause. Anyone who has ever plugged a WD external usb HDD into their PC will be offered that driver as an optional update in Windows Update - hence my need to hide it with wushowhide.diagcab on all my PCs.

Apparently it's only use is if you want to use the WD encryption software that comes with those drives.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

Good to know, that annoying driver took me forever to figure out how to get rid of and get memory integrity for that machine.
