I have an ASUS Zenbook i5-1340P laptop with 500GB SSD, and in order to have more storage for pictures and files, I decided to buy a 512GB microSD and use it as a parallel semi-permanent storage. I love it because I can use it to transfer things to the laptop's SSD (put the card in a USB reader, transfer and back to the laptop), store personal files, also backup files from the SSD... it's really wonderful, especially since good microSD cards these days, like mine, go up to 170MB/s write speeds, constant.
The same as with HDD, when you open "THIS PC", sometimes it takes like 3-4 seconds to load or "wake up" the HDD, and the HDD or microSD icon is blank and loading.
However, sometimes (twice or more each day), the microSD will go 100% usage out of nowhere (I normally have task manager opened for monitoring) and will stay at 100% forever until you open This PC or the microSD and force the PC to notice the microSD, or Windows Explorer. It's so annoying, and I don't understand why it does that. In case somebody says my laptop is the problem, the exact same thing happens in another msi laptop with another microSD model.
It looks like Windows 11 has some kind of bug with microSDs, or more specifically, Windows Explorer I believe (since that's what I open to fix it). The microSD card works fine, the speeds are fine, data is fine...
This 100% usage is not "free". It breaks other things, like, for example, the other day I was upgrading the Iris Xe iGPU and the installer was waiting forever and was not starting, I checked task manager, saw the microSD 100% usage, opened This PC, microSD went to 0% and installer went on finally.
I don't understand why it does, and what makes the microSD do that. Any solution?
It's so annoying I'm about removing the microSD unless I wanna use it, but that breaks the point of having a comfy parallel storage I can use whenever I want.
