Microphone -- Configure (button) Grayed Out

Just converted from Win10 to Win11 on Saturday: Version 24H2 (OS Build 26100.6725).


After doing a Google search (AI-assisted), I went through the various suggestions, but I’m still not seeing the option to configure a microphone. My standard headset/mic is a Logitech USB with built-in drivers, and my commentary mic is a Tonor microphone. Granted, I can manually adjust them in Properties, but I’d prefer having the full Configuration option with voice setup.

Configure is not enabled for any devices on the Recording tab.
As you know, You can select your Mic and choose the Properties button to configure it.

It's quicker than accessing from right click/properties is my point, but I am trying to communicate with the OP. Cheers.

Double-clicking just takes you into Properties. Yes, you can adjust mic volume there, but traditionally I’d use the Configure button, then read the prompt: “Peter dictates to his computer. He prefers it to typing, and particularly prefers it to pen and paper." After that, it would auto-balance. "Prefers it to pen and paper", is to help with Popping P's (Mic Filter).


It’s not a 'yuge; deal, just something I’ve been doing for years.

I’ve not known the SOUND properties to ever offer full options to configure a Mic. If that was available in 10, maybe they ditched it. I’d suggest somehow creating a shortcut to the sound properties in your device drivers as apposed to the Windows Sound UI

The configure options has been around since Windows 7. I've been using mic and record software since. I've never Not seen it till Windows 11.

So as already mentioned, the configure button is greyed out. It’s greyed out for me also, as it is for others. It isn’t a bug that I know of, it’s by design.

Heh... There you go. Old School Config. It's not a big deal, but I've been using Configure since WIn7. As far as Win11. I'm shockingly impressed. My friends and family, not so much.

Windows Eleven may have installed what it thinks is a better sound driver. If you want to try to restore the old driver, start Device Manager, expand "Sound, Video and Game controllers", right-click the audio device, select "Update driver", then click "Browse my computer for drivers", then "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer". If more than one driver appears on the list, pick one that is not highlighted and click "Next". You may have to restart the computer for the change to take effect.

All the best drivers are already loaded (was the response) and the LogiTech and Tonor mic have their own build in drivers. The highlighted portion was leading to my Documents folder and there aren't any drivers in there.

In Device Manager, when you right click a device and choose Update Driver Windows will show you Documents folder as a default path.
If you have downloaded a driver, you can Browse it to that folder to update the driver with the .ini file.

Extra functionality in the form of extra Settings, or an App, should be provided by the Microphone manufacturers.

On mine the extra functionality is in an App and provides Noise Cancellation features.

Look up Logi Tune, and whatever for Tonor.

That old dialogue box is legacy. The Configure button is greyed out on mine as well.
