What the new block does is it checks your PC to determine whether SSE4.2/SSE4.A is present.

If it isn't detected, you can install 24H2 but it won't boot. You have been warned.

No. Its built into the CPU. It can't be bypassed with a registry or a kernel hack.

I wonder if Microsoft is aware of how many users this can effect. It seems like they are eliminating users by restricting them from updates. It doesn't quite make sense to me or is it justified?

I'm sure they are aware.

I'm hoping that means that a bunch of unneeded code can be removed/updated to improve overall system responsiveness.

The "limit" is not 2010, but 2012-13. For example, the Core i5-4570 Haswell, launched in 2013, doesn´t support SSE4.A.

I count one post currently, I’d wager it doesn’t get past 3. There are at least 100 threads about onedrive that all say the same thing. This is more akin to breaking news. It would be like having Shawn put all of his tutorials for fFile Explorer or Edge into one tutorial, wouldn’t it?

Well it wouldn't, as SSE4A is an elusively AMD instruction set, first seen in 2008. The equivalent Intel requirement is SSE4.2 - which it does have.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. MS does know. This is how I see it. For technology to advance it's going to need both software and hardware to advance. The same thing happened with analog TV when digital TV took over. For the public to have a grace period to upgrade their TVs, they came out with digital converters. MS did the same thing with Windows 11 by officially telling users how to bypass the requirements and unofficially by not closing the door. Now they want to close that door and move on. That's just my opinion and I'm sure there are others that have different opinions on this.

My Haswell Core i7-5500u launched in 2014, supports SSE4.2.
