I have changed the user name for my files at C:\User following Shawn Brink's Excellent instructions in the Windows 10 forum at
Change Name of User Profile Folder in Windows 10. My only problem is that although I did the regedit prescribed, when I look at run>msinfo32 to look at System Information the username is listed as the previous name. Is there another registry parameter which must be changed?
Microsoft Windows 11 Home, Version 10.0.26100 Build 26100

Everything is working due to the link described in the instructions, but it is confusing to have the old user profile name hanging around

Thank you for your help

Hello Jimbo, :alien:

If you are referring to the "User Name" path in msinfo32, then that is the account name instead of the account's profile folder name.

Thank You for your response. I tried changing the user account name, but that didn't change the msinfo32 value. However, I am not going any further down this particular rabbit hole. Also, I was disappointed to find out that when changing the account name, it demanded two names (John Doe) whereas my preferred name would be simply "User" Thank you again for your response. I will close this question.

Be careful your user path is correct or you won't be able to log in.

If your user profile gets trashed, open registry, head to

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

Look up your identifiers beginning with your SID keys - SID (Security Identifier) keys (e.g., "S-1-5-21-...")

If there is more than one, take note of the SID key with the bak. extension. Delete duplicate keys without the extension.

Rename the backup key by removing the bak. extension and hit enter.

Look up that key and examine the ProfileImagePath. Be sure it corresponds to your user path and if not, change it. Hit enter.

Next look up State and change the value to 0 and hit enter.

Close the registry and reboot your PC. When you're at the login screen, enter your PIN and upon login, your user profile should load normally again.

@NormanF I have a question, When I was switching from my M365 account to a local account on my PC, where the username was I changed it to a new username but only by one letter, ive noticed a few folders that wont show up like the documents folder. Is there an easy way like using the above to make this correction? or will I need to create a whole new profile and just copy everything over? Any help you can provide would be great.

Thanks in advance.
