Microsoft Announces New Teams Free: Simple, Free, and Built for You

 Microsoft Teams Blog:

Your new home for simple, powerful, and free communication and collaboration.

After more than two decades of connecting people across the globe, Skype’s journey has come to a close. If you’ve been part of that story, whether since the early days or more recently, thank you. Skype’s retirement was announced in late February. Since then, millions of former Skype users have joined Microsoft Teams Free.

If you’ve already signed in to Teams, you have likely noticed: your Skype chats, contacts, and call history are all here. If you had Skype credits or a subscription, you’ll also see the familiar Skype Dial Pad. Everything you need, now with more tools to support how you connect today.

Teams Free is Built for You

We created Teams Free to offer a better way to stay connected and get things done, without switching between apps. It is light, flexible, and designed for everyday moments, whether you're connecting with family or building the next great thing.

From Skype to Teams Free: Real Stories

We’ve heard from many of you making the transition from Skype to Teams. Thank you for sharing your stories with us! Lisa Hedley, who has taught flute using Skype for years and is now using Teams, shared:

"I have used Skype for online flute lessons since the pandemic started. It's been a great platform, and while I was disappointed that it was going away, I have found the switch to Teams Free to be seamless. Teams Free looks just like Skype, and I appreciated that familiarity. Teams Free also continues to provide what I need for my lessons: a straightforward, cost-free platform with excellent audio quality and a built-in stopwatch to keep track of time."

Have a story to share? We’d love to hear how you’re using Teams Free. Give us a shout on social @ MicrosoftTeams.

Meet the People Behind the Product

We’re real people, building Teams Free for you. Please keep sharing your feedback with us, and we’ll keep building Teams Free forward to better meet your needs. Watch our behind-the-scenes video to meet our team at Microsoft and hear why we’re so passionate about what’s next.

To everyone who ever placed a Skype call across oceans or just across the street—thank you. We hope Teams Free becomes your next home for meaningful connection. And we’re here, building with you, every step of the way.

Teams is far too complicated for general one on one type calls.

Most make such calls from a mobile phone nowadays.

It will never get remotely close to whatsapp or inferior google meet.
