Microsoft Money 2005 Works!

Note I'm using the UK version of Money which which operate differently to the US version.

Yes and you are using 2005 which was released and also the last non-US release when they were still selling the product while the Sunset Edition is basically when the product was depreciated and they also stripped out the quotes feature. I used to use Money 2006 Plus until a few yeas ago.

"Money is no longer being actively developed as a retail program. From its inception in 1991 until its discontinuation in 2009, Microsoft Money was commercial software. Microsoft discontinued sales of the software on June 30, 2009 and removed access to online services for existing Money installations in January 2011. In 2010, Microsoft released a replacement version, called Microsoft Money Plus Sunset, which allows users to open and edit Money data files, but lacks any online features or support. It was available in two editions: Deluxe, and Home & Business."

Also, Money requires Internet Explorer which is missing in Windows 11 so that could the reason why and unless one used the patched mnyob99.dll, there can also be other problems:

I use MSMoneyQuotes too which is a great utility to grab share and fund prices
Do you happen to know of the correct way to set up Task Scheduler to run MSMoneyQuotes?

All Online services were removed on January 31, 2011. The following has more info on what options you have to continue using it:

In your case, you have to setup things manually and click on the "My Financial institution is not listed" on the bottom left of that screen as there is nothing it can connect to to pull up a database.

I did and it seems like with Windows 11, it is killing the processes automatically instead of like Windows 10 where it would keep running. A good example of this is MSMoneyQuotes.exe which runs from the cmd.exe prompt, the process can disappear on it's own as with Microsoft Money Sunset edition as the process will be gone. Seems like Windows 11 will kill processes if it needs the resources or something.

Speaking about Microsoft Money, has anyone found a way to do a scrolling capture when in Portfolio Manager of all the transactions of a security?

I know this thread is a few months old now, but I still use Microsoft Money 2007 with Windows 11 and have experienced a weird problem with Alt-Tab not working very well while using Microsoft Money. When I'm running Microsoft Money, often times there are multiple MS Money windows that appear in the alt-tab list, even though there is only one instance running. Other times, alt-tab stops working altogether (I can't alt-tab to other apps).
I found a link online describing a multiple instance bug with alt-tab in Windows 11 that sounds similar to what I'm experiencing with Microsoft Money.

Perhaps related, sometimes I've noticed Windows Explorer seems to freeze or doesn't show apps when I click on them; I'm not sure if Microsoft Money is affecting Windows Explorer in any way.

Has anyone else had this problem with Microsoft Money on Windows 11? I'm wondering if Microsoft Money is just too old now, but I haven't found anything better to replace it.

I have been having this same exact problem since day 1 with Win 11. It's only when switching FROM ms money. Never to it. It's aggravating. But, it's what I'm dealing with because as others have said, MS Money is the best. There are things it does other apps just don't do. I literally can't plan my future accurately with other apps.

Sorry, apparently they are two different things.

Yes, I confirm this 100%. As soon as I tried upgrading MS Money 2007 to MS Money Sunset (US edition) I almost immediately found the performance of Money would grind to a halt and would have to kill the process via Task Manager (2-3x daily). I traced it back to leaking file handles just as you did and tried with Money Sunset on both Win7 and Win10. I was fortunate to have kept a MNY 2007 backup file before upgrading.

For this very reason, I have remained on Money 2007 ever since. In hindsight, it seems very suspicious that Microsoft released Sunset intentionally having this resource leak issue in order to fool users into upgrading their MNY data files to the "free" Sunset edition, then ditch their previously purchased Money versions long before anyone would come to suspect or find out about this "bug", ultimately to get so frustrated by it and abandon the Sunset version altogether; just as many would be left with no MNY file rollback option unless they took precautions before upgrading. Hence, making it a true "sunset" plan / exit strategy.

I can't believe there isn't so much demand that MS cannot restart the development MS Money, but I guess if they did they would probably sell it as a SaaS/cloud only service which I'd personally never touch anyway.
