#ODT

Still only command line! - like only used server side or by sysadmins (we just know how they love cmd...LOL) or what?

Why call an xml from cmdline?

Why call an xml from cmdline?

Because that simple XML file contains all instructions needed for a custom Office install.

What would be the alternative? Create a GUI to run instructions in a simple, short XML file?

The ODT is really practical. For years now, I have never installed Office "normally". I always use ODT. I've even written a tutorial for it on our sister site Ten Forums:

Yes, and no - a self-contained app that uses .json with all the options would be my choice - rather than an xml hanging on the side.

Manually editing an XML is daft - there's no validation - one incorrect tag and the thing falls over.

Meh. I like it. And I've definitely screwed things up before. But it is not a tool for just anyone....and rightly so.

Hi there
using things like nano or vim to edit xml files is a bit bonkers but most decent browsers can edit (and syntax check) xml files so perhaps both camps are correct here -- I think in any case the VM config files in HYPER-V and KVM are xml files as well as commands for starting, stopping and accessing the VM's.

Cheers
