Solved Microsoft's POP3 email problem

For the time being, isn't there a gmail reader app for Microsoft windows. perhaps download it and try it for the moment to alleviate concerns? Unless.... Question, you can't login to gmail online anymore? I've lost track.

pop.gmail.com has something to do with retrieval
smtp.gmail.com has something to do with sending how can this information help?

The windows are still popping up on Diane's computer, and her email has rejected her password settings...Another fire to put out....and she's more than concerned.

I can still log on to email online (meaning gmail.com). I don't think Diane can (back upstairs...)

This is from Diane's (POP) Outlook email. Apparently it's on the blink now! (and it explains why I couldn't send emails - of the popping-up - emails). Now, how to reconfigure her account! I'm starting to lose it--no time for breathing now.

Deleted Diane's account. Re-input her account.

Emailwise, we're both in deep s***! Gmail.com is still accepting her password...
The same "Interet Email - <email address>" SMTP Windows (with her User Name) and others are flashing on the screen as soon as the last is dismissed.

I've ruined things for both of us.

Seems like the carriages have left also...

ignore the other inputs, like I said, I don't have gmail to know what they are. It would seem most of your issues are related to your password? You need to sort that out, how? I don't know. Not helpful I know.

Following your suggestions on Diane's account. (She was gracious...Said she only needed her Outlook for her contacts list.)

No, it didn't work. One thing...it kept asking

which could mean email or password. But BOTH ARE CORRECT!

I believe where this whole thing went wrong was when I deleted all the other (one at a time, mind you) app passwords. I'm not blaming garyb0125 when he suggested I delete all the other app passwords but that the reasoning behind what I call Destructive Reasoning is dangerous. Why?
- No one seems to know what an app password is?
- The way one creates an app password (explained in the YouTube suggested earlier)? gives you no clue as to what you are doing?
- The connection between creating an app password and the app you think it might relate to is totally unclear and Google seems to ensure it stays that way. (Did I just create an app password to Photoshop, Microsoft Outlook (the freebee) or MS Outlook365. Thunderbird?????
- Neither I nor anyone in this house created the apparent app passwords we noticed in the screenshot I sent.

It was a total chimera and I fell into the pit of deleting it.

Idon't think anyone can "sort this out".

I still don't understand what an app password is, and when you make an app password it's not associated with anything
BUT FOUND OUT THAT when you make an app password it changes your (in this case Diane's) EMAIL PASSWORD!!!

nOW SHE'S GETTING notifications on her phone from Google!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and the droid she's getting the notification on is not her phone (its just a droid she plays crossword puzzles on)

For starters, every attempt to connect to Gmail and check mail, when it fails so many times, Gmail algorithms and alerts are bound to get suspicious. Its neejerk reaction would be to possibly lock your account. Your wife is getting emails from Gmail warning of suspicious activity.

So I would cease with outlook, totally remove all of the instances that you have tried to enter? And secure Gmail, calmly. One thing at a time.
I brought my kids up and taught my wife (because she panics) that panicking is counter productive, can cause further issues/problems/accidents. This is why they say “in an orderly fashion”

Once you have secured your Gmail accounts, I would seriously consider making a disposable gmail account and practice with that. You don’t want to risk losing your stuff.

Once you know what you’re doing, you’re all set! You can fix your outlook/gmail issue.

It doesn't seem to matter what you select, you can select "Custom name" for the app and you can select a "Custom name" for the device--nothing relates to anything--and, presto! you have an app password that changes something, though you have no idea what it is! And in this video the narrator was satisfied writing down, and presumably remembering a 16-letter code generated randomly.......

I'm used to apps that you install by double clicking a .exe file. Not something that requires some Hocus Pocus that Google (and people on this forum) insists is required to run an app written by a completely different company. It's driving me up a wall.

I'm afraid there's no way to know what I am doing. What I'm doing is nonsense. and doing it again is equally nonsensical. And think of all the permutations of selectables that make no difference, I'll have, to choose, to tell me nothing.

(on the other hand, I can think of lots of good reasons why competing software companies might want people to do these sorts of things until they really believe there's some rational reason behind it and eventually tell other people: "Well of course. If it's not working out you absolutely need to make an app password..." Microsoft is no different. While going through this I thought to save off all Diane's Contacts (another .pst file I believe). Used to be that you could save off your emails separately; your contacts separately; your calendar items separately; your ToDos... Now there's no apparent way you can save off your calendar items or ToDos...
