Missing all desktop icons except 'This pc' and the recycle bin

Hi.. not sure what has happened but I have lost all of my desktop icons except the 2 mentioned above. I have also noticed
that I can no longer open a spreadsheet using Excel use Word. a msg is displayed indicating it can't find the file..
In addition, when I send a shortcut to the desktop nothing shows and when I 'right click'on the desktop and select 'show desktop icons',
the 2 icons that do show disappear. If I repeat the process they reappear. Like a toggle effect.

I am in trouble with this.. and any help will be appreciated. I'm basically stopped at the present time and do not have any idea how
move forward to resolve this.

I've added a couple of screenshots showing popup msgs that I am getting..

I am using Windows 11 and am uptodate with all updates

please have a look at ..
right click the desktop .. on this menu click view.
at the bottom of that menu is 'show desktop items'
please check if that is marked to show desktop items.

Do you want "short cut" icons on your desk top"........ Is that what disappeared ?

Is it possible you've inadvertently allowed OneDrive to sync your desktop?

Added to this, it would appear from your first screen shot that you've renamed the 'OneDrive - Personal' folder to 'B.E. - Personal' something that would be sure to cause problems.

Rename it back and hope for the best.

Evidently with Windows 11 this renaming is normal.

It would help if you could state any changes you made prior to this happening. I agree with the poster who said it's related to Onedrive. Did you do ANYTHING with your MS account, Onedrive, or personal folders?
