Hi all,

I hope you're well.
I'm drowning in frustration at the moment.

Circumstances beyond my control forced me to stop using a Gmail account that I've had for 10 years.
I've set up a new email address at Outlook.com, and I've managed to import my old messages into the Outlook app.

My aim is to transfer everything across, and then close the Gmail account for good.
I'm having trouble getting what I see in the app to line up with what I see on the web, though.
I've managed to import my folders and the contents into the email client, but when I open the folders on the web, there's nothing inside.

Can anybody please explain how I can view my messages online in a simple, step by step manner?

Many thanks,

Casey

There wouldn't be. The outlook app and outlook on the web are horses of a different color. Outlook on the web is nothing more than a web interface to all the emails the MS server has stored for an outlook.com email address whereas the email app can handle emails from different email providers. When you imported the gmail messages into the app, those messages are stored on your computer only, not on MS servers. If you want all those old gmail emails to show up in outlook on the web (the server), you will have to forward them from gmail email address to outlook.com email address. Even doing that, they will still not align with the app as those emails would be from you@gmail to you@outlook. They would not retain the original sender in the FROM name.

Several years ago there was a way to pull messages from another account into an outlook.com account, but it's my understanding it can not be done any more.

Thanks for clarifying.

The odd thing is that I have managed to import two of my most important folders with everything intact on the Web and in the app.

Do you have any idea how I might have managed that?

I don't!

Using 365 should make it easier. I do not use 365 but I do use Outlook 2021 app which works basically the same in the way it handles emails. I have both my @outlook.com email account and my @gmail.com email account set up into the Outlook app (2 separate inboxes). I have folders created within my outlook.com account for all emails I want to save no matter which account I receive then in.

If I receive an email in my gmail account that I want to save, all I have to do is drag the email from gmail inbox into the folders I have created under my outlook.com account. They are removed from gmail when I do this.

When I go to outlook on the web, the saved emails are there as well because the folders I have created within the app syncs to outlook on the web.
Doing it this way, there was no need to do any exporting and importing of emails. All I exported was my address book.
Eventually, this gmail account will go away.

I hope that makes sense.

You genius!

Thank you so much for helping me sort this out.
I will now continue to manually migrate my folders, and enjoy the fact that everything tallies.

Take care,

Casey
