Missing letters Win 11 pro

Yes, just as it says in the Repair install tutorial.

Would you happen to have a link for that tutorial? The video I followed was called "how to repair install Windows 11 using media creation tool, how to". I followed that video but it did not fix the problem which leads me to believe it did not replace all of these startup files.

I ran the repair install and it still did not replace the corrupted startup window. Clearly repair does not replace all of the system files. I have too much installed to do a reinstall so it looks like I'm stuck.

No letters are missing once I boot up
Have you tested the behaviour in the Bios just to eliminate everything but the Windows boot up sequence?
- I think you have already said that everything is OK within Windows itself after it completes loading.
- I don't think that its behaviour in the Bios has not been mentioned.
Whilst I've never heard of your problem before, if the Bios is OK and Windows is OK then that only leaves the boot partition, the EFI system partition, as a source of the problem.
Are you aware of any untoward events that might have affected disk contents in an uncontrolled way?
There are some members who know Windows partitions well and, I imagine, also understand the boot up sequence. Once you've checked the Bios I think you'd have all the info needed to ask them for assistance.

If it was my computer, I would check the Bios [which I expect to be OK] and then
1 Make a new system image of the whole disk
2 Reinstall Windows - a "Clean install" that overwrites the entire disk. Clean Install Windows 11 - ElevenForumTutorials
3 See if it now behaved correctly.
4 If it did, restore the system image of the C:\ drive [partition] alone. It is this restoration that avoids your having to reinstall anything.
5 See if it now behaved correctly.

Best of luck,
Denis

Thanks for the detailed reply. I am running an x670e plus wifi with 7950x cpu and have kept it up with the latest bios. I don't know what other options there are other than reinstalling. I'm guessing a fresh install would fix it but I think I'll just put up with it for now as it's too much work for no real gain. Thanks very much.

We seem to be at cross-purposes. I just meant checking whether or not all the letters appear correctly in your Bios entries.

Oh, and???

I checked my bios and all characters are there and no corruption is present. I guess it's just a mystery. The "Preparing Windows" screen must be from the Win11 OS so it seems repair does not replace all of the files unless I'm missing something else. Everything is fine once booted up. Thanks for all the ideas and time.

@NavyLCDR
@spapakons

You know more about partitions than I do.

This OP has correct behaviour in the Bios & within Windows but incorrect behaviour whilst Windows is loading.
Some letters are missing from onscreen notices - see the illustration in post #1.
proxy.png
Ian provided useful clarification in his post #4.
Not every 'E' is missing - & others as well
"Your 98% th re. e k ep your comput r on"
"your 98% there. please keep your computer on"

The OP has, amongst other things, run SFC, Dism & a Repair install.
Is it possible that the OP's EFI system partition is faulty and is causing the strange behaviour during Windows loading?
My thoughts are in post #25.

All the best,
Denis

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 13 years?
I have seen letters missing or mixed up before. This is usually due to some issue with the graphics card. If it is overheated and the RAM is faulty. I would use Memtest or similar utility to test the RAM. I would also test the graphics card, after I would update to the latest official drivers from Manufacturer support site, not Windows Update.

Looks like corrupted graphics. Test RAM and then test CPU temperature. Clean dry thermal paste and apply fresh thermal paste between the CPU and the cooler. If the cooler is not working properly or is not adequate replace the cooler. Add some fans in your case to better dissipate heat.

cpu is at 42C and it happens on a cold boot. I built the machine recently and the paste is fresh and good. I still have to do the memtest but I would have expected to see problems in daily use but there are none. The machine runs great it just has those odd screens on bootup and updates. I'm still leaning towards corrupted files that are not replaced during windows repair.

Possibly damaged graphics section of the CPU? Does it happen in BIOS too? If it happens only inside Windows, I would replace the disk with a spare and do a clean installation to see if it is a Windows or hardware issue.

Yeah I've done the repair twice now downloading a fresh media creator file in generating the ISO each time. I have to find time to run memtest
