Mobile phones for children UK users

Of course, many children have mobile phones for safety reasons but a parental concern is safe internet/data use.

Asda UK Mobile offer a SIM tariff that allows unlimited calls and texts for £4 per month but no data access. The £4 is a one off month payment but you can select to automatically to renew it each month.

It is the only tariff I have seen in UK that specifically excludes data. Most allow some data or quickly chew up the initial payment on a pence per megabyte basis.

This tariff is ideal to protect young children. Of course, parents need to decide when children are old enough to be allowed internet access.

I do not know if a data package could be added, but the child would not have access to the mobile app needed to top up as that is password protected.

ASDA mobile piggy backs off vodafone so gets pretty good UK coverage.

Of course, course nothing stops the little "daleks" changing the SIM and putting a different one but they usually will not have the financial means to top up the changed SIMs.

With no data, you can't use their phone as a tracker, though.

I think its time children under 18 should have none internet phones. Tik Tok needs to be banned too, its deliberately using kids and phones to cause disruption and trouble.

Had you seen the UK gov is considering banning smartphones to under 16 year-olds? Seems people would have to prove their age to buy a device. Was in the Guardian and Times over the last few days, also here:

That's just a nonsense discussion to find a solution to a problem that doesn't really exist.

Banning sales is not the same as banning children owning a phone.

I would agree with a sales ban inasmuch as it stops children buying one if their parents do not wish child to have a phone.

I am 100% in favour of banning phones at school. However, the little "daleks" will find a way round the rules. Kids have always found ways round smoking.

The idea that kids would surrender phone as they enter schoool is a joke. The minxes would just have two phones.

Would each kid need to go through airport security style detectors? Mind you that could detect more serious items like knives.

About the only way to stop phone usage is to put a giant Faraday cage around the school AND block wifi access. Not gonna happen.

The only way I can see this even remotely working if children transgress rules, they are expelled for the remainder of the year and forced to resit year next year.

Of course all the liberal apologists will say this is unfair on the children lol.

Banning sales is pointless; no under 16 kid is buying a new phone themselves, and if they did want to buy one, they would buy one second-hand from a friend or a dodgy shop.

Banning stuff is pointless when the ways around it are so simple.

World wide teens are rioting and running amock. Someone somewhere is organising all this. As Tik Tok is chinese owned, and we all know China's ambitions, I thought it was an obvious source. America said about 3 weeks ago, Tik Tok will be banned, but with your current president, I cant see that happening just yet.
