Moving files to new PC with W11 from old PC with W10 - Ugh!!

I have been trying to transfer files from my old PC to my new PC using the Windows Back app. The app has instructions to follow. I get to a step that tells me to enter the computer name of my old computer into my new computer which will then be followed by a code on the new computer that I would enter into my old computer. The problem is I don't see where in my new computer to enter the name of my old computer. I have verified that both computers are hardwired to the same network.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Win10: 22H2 (Build 19045-6466)
Win11: 25H2 (Build 26200.7171)

I am trying to move folders that contain music, pictures (I don't have a cat), word documents. I'd like to move the file that contains the Windows icons. I have quicken data I'd like to move.

Try using Network at the bottom of the left window in File Explorer.

If you're having networking issues, go for the simple foolproof method that's worked for decades!
  • Connect a USB disk to the old computer, copy all the files/folders to transfer to the USB disk.
  • Connect the USB disk to your new computer, copy all the files/folders to their final destination folders.
Job done.

Agree with the above post. That's the easiest way, but over the past decade or so most flash drives have become interminably slow when it comes to copying files to them for some reason.

If you know which direction to turn a screwdriver and how to rearrange Legos (a lot of people don't, no offense intended) the fastest way to accomplish your task is by pulling the drive out of your old computer and plugging it in to the new one.

    None. Manully configured so nobody except me can change any critical system files. (Don't ask how, it's probably against some rule somewhere)
It got a little more expensive, but here's the USB FLASH drive I use for such purposes.

It clocks in at over 400MB/sec transfers, so any reasonable amount of data doesn't take long to move.

On the new PC during Windows Setup, click/tap on Continue on the "Do your want to transfer information from another PC" screen when you get to it. (see screenshot below)
...
On the new PC during Windows Setup, enter the old PC's computer name (ex: "W11BETAVM") from above, and click/tap on Next. (see screenshot below)
