Did a clean Windows 11 re-install then reinstalled all my software and moved all my data. Just noticed %USERPROFILE% is different on the two PC e.g.
I'm concerned of issues because of the mismatch. One that comes to mind: I use Crashplan for continuous backup. When I move Crashplan to the new PC, I would tell it to "Adopt". Crashplan would look at the file/folder structure of my current backup archive vs what's on the new PC. It will think all my old files are deleted because it all sits under a different %USERPROFILE% now. It'll mark everything in the backup archive as "deleted". And see everything as new. I'll lose all my version history
Is there a simple way to change folder name? Thinking using a junction point may get confusing down the road. Rather not have to create a new user and copy everything over but suspect might be only other solution
- On Win 10 PC: %USERPROFILE% = C:\Users\john
- On Win 11 PC: %USERPROFILE% = C:\Users\jdoe
