MS 365 vs. Word, Excel and Outlook

OS
Windows 11 for Workstations with 6 or more cores
I have been an Office 365 subscriber for a number of years now, after buying releases starting somewhere prior to 1995 i think (OK, i admit, my memory is very VERY poor).

The only parts i still use are Outlook, Excel and Word, and i think i get Outlook through an MS Exchange server subscription through GoDaddy, though i really can no longer recall.

I want to dump the Office 365 subscription. I have no use for the other apps included, and i have no use for the security nor program "enhancements" they push, and no use for SAS in this case.

My issue is basically a fear of going off into the unknown to do this. I am going to be happy with any release of these programs since 2015, but i am afraid of doing an open search, finding and buying something off eBay or the like, and then finding that i have downloaded either corrupt or illegal software. On the other hand, i have no motivation to send MS any more of my money and i do not need the latest release by any means.

Would one of you good people out there who knows how this all works be able to give me some guidance please?

Thank you,
-Bruce

If it were me, I would wait until you see a decent offer from checking their website, it does vary a lot.

One thing to be aware of is that with your 365 subscription you get 1TB of OneDrive storage; but if you cancel your subscription, that storage space drops to 5gig, and anything over that is subject to being deleted.

You will of course be notified and warned to remove said files before action is taken, but eventually the files will be deleted in not removed. Additionally, you will not be able to sync / upload files until you are below the new storage limit.

Of course, if you're not using OneDrive this wouldn't be an issue.

Just FYI.

Isn't that the wrong direction?

I got a new HP Notebook 3 weeks ago for $175, included a year of Microsoft 365. And I don't use OneDrive, no need for it.

I have been an Office 365 subscriber for a number of years now, after buying releases starting somewhere prior to 1995 i think (OK, i admit, my memory is very VERY poor).
Office 365 is only a few years old. I had Office 4.3 back in the late '90s which included Word 6, it wasn't until Office 2016 coordinated the apps version numbers in the suite to version 16, before that the apps had different numbers from the suite they were in.

I thinks it should be 5 GB in stead of 5 TB. ;-)
Yes, it's 5gig not TB. Obviously if you "read" the post where is says "drops", then we know 1 to 5TB isn't a "drop", so an error o_O

One thing to be aware of is that with your 365 subscription you get 1TB of OneDrive storage; but if you cancel your subscription, that storage space drops to 5TB, and anything over that is subject to being deleted.

Sorry.

Frankly, i am paranoid over the potential for cloud storage to be hacked; i seldom use any and over time with different ones (seemingly) downsizing or eliminating/transitioning requirements, i see them as one more source for future issue. I am fortunate as they solve no issues for me-

I use apachie open office v4.15 is current just install it for free it does everything you want I've been using it foer 20 years and hasn't cost me a cent. This is important tome as I'm on a pension. https://openoffice.en.softonic.com/...yNCA_cdxdtC9lIC_04SOmGY_KIokUk-xoCaKEQAvD_BwE

the reason my words are joined some times is I'm using a erogeromic microsoft keyboard and the space bar was designed incorrectly so it binds if not pushed down in the exact correct angle I have 4 of these keyboards all the same.

I use the free LibreOffice and put it on my clients' computers when they got new ones. Their old one had Microsoft Works included by the OEMs and OpenOffice wouldn't open those files where LibreOffice can. Both programs have roots in the old WordStar/Star Office from the '80s, if looking at the installed folders one will note the executable file names start with an s.
