Solved MS Exchange

One of my email service providers migrated to MS Exchange. I access my emails with Outlook (part of my MS 365 subscription).

How do I back up my emails?

My concern is that if the Exchange server gets corrupted, my local copy also gets corrupted. I do have long term emails such as annual subscriptions that I like to track over the years. I back up with Macrium Reflect Home, File History and RoboCopy. It would be nice if I could back up my emails using those backup apps.

You can export your mailbox to a pst file.

Or you can configure your outlook with a pst datafile and have it deliver to thst file. Then it's always stored on your computer...but this means you wouldn't be able to access it from the cloud once it's moved into the pst.

Have you checked your email settings? Most email servers will maintain the email on their server, in addition to your email client downloading a local copy.

MailStore Home edition is free and allows the user to backup one or several accounts. Visit the link below for more details.

Exporting the Exchange emails (including subfolders) to a .pst file does work so that the .pst file will be backed up with all my other stuff

The export neither deletes the local copy nor the emails on the Exchange server. I am not quite sure yet how to handle any (probably quite rare) errors on the Exchange server. I selected 'do not export duplicates' thereby hoping to ward off the worst.

I am also not quite sure how often I shall do the exports, but certainly not on a daily basis. Sometimes old technology is better (in some ways) than the latest and the greatest, LOL

In any case, there is a reasonable way to back up the Exchange emails, I will mark this thread 'Solved' thanks to all who responded
