windows 10
since the last win 11 upgrade (22H2, I think), Outlook (from Office 2021) does not reliably send or receive email. It can't find the ms server.

i can always "refresh" the program by deleting the .ost (user, app data) file and restarting office. but it takes awhile to repopulate the entries and it always can't find the ms server a day or so later.

Please help. Is my Office corrupted (I've reinstalled/erased the program several times without any impact.

Thank you.

Hi, Welcome to Eleven Forums :-)

I'm using Office 365 with the Outlook desktop app, running Windows 11 Pro 22H2. No issues here. You might need to check/redo your email credentials for each email account.

BTW, is this one email account? Multiple accounts? If it's just one account, you might check it, instead of looking at the Outlook app.

Office and Outlook at connected to Microsoft Exchange. And it is the connection between Office and the MS server that is at issue.

If I erase the .ost file, the data reproduces itself (emails, address book, calendar) and for a time continues to update these files with new mail, for example. but after a time (sometimes three hours, sometimes two days) the whole business stick and nothing happens. No mail, no sends, no updates of calendar from other machines, which are on ms exchange with the same email coordinates.

Sounds like you need to talk to the ISP (email) provider.

BTW, you need to understand only your email directly attached to a Microsoft account will come from a Microsoft sever. If you have a third-party email provider like say Google or an email account from your ISP provider, say Cox cable, that email comes from the ISP's server. That even though Google might be attached to Outlook, you email coming and going is handled by Google's email server.

In short, the issue could very well be with the email provider and have nothing to do with Outlook app. Which is why I asked what email account?

If you're not sure, you will need to figure that out.

Even with the installation of Office 365 and with the re-installation of Windows 11, I still had the problem.

Dru2 was almost right. It was the internet connection but not FIOS. It was the Ethernet cable that was flaky. I can't understand why it worked all the time with data (downloading software and browsing the internet) but didn't work consistently with Outlook and the MS Server. I guess timings are critical here.

I first unplugged the Ethernet cable and switched to WIFI. Slower than wired (200 symmetrical instead of my normal wired 925/875) but it worked fine.

Then I changed the cable. Bingo: back to wired speeds and Outlook performs perfectly.

Thanks for your help.

Spoke too soon. Not the old cable. The new Ethernet cable, which is a premium one (Cat 8 6 foot 40gpbs/2000mhz), didn't stay stable either: after two days the connection started to become flaky again (biggest symptoms : Outlook stopped receiving mail; couldn't access Amazon ).
In desperation bought a usb 3 to Ethernet device (TP-link UE306). Works like a charm. 900 symmetrical with FIOS.

Searched the internet: lots of problems with Asus ROG Ethernet ports. Everywhere. Beware of Asus ROG.
