Can Windows Mail (and Calendar) be unlinked/disconnected from MS Outlook/Exchange (Office 2021)

Hi all,

I synced Outlook (desktop version) with Windows Mail and Calendar because I wanted items I added to the Outlook Calendar to show up in Windows Calendar. Now that that is done, I cannot find a way to unsync/disconnect/unlink them. If I keep notifications on (which I currently turned off), I get double the notifications; one for Outlook and another for Windows Mail.

Can anyone help me out? (Did a thorough search on the internets and only found how to sync them or troubleshooting to that effect.)

P.S. Ooopss, I think I posted this in the wrong forum.

You should be able to control the double notifications in settings>system>notifications
Toggle off any app for which you want to turn notifications off.

I have turned off notifications, and was still getting double after specifically disabling Windows Mail, so I turned them all off. So, now I don't get any notifications as it seems that's the only way to avoid double notifications.

So, my concern here is not about double notifications, but about disconnecting Windows Mail and Calendar from (Office 2021) Outlook. I tried searching syncing with Exchange, but didn't find anything there. Any ideas or suggestions are much appreciated.

Hi glasskuter,

Thanks for sticking with me. I read the attached link regarding deleting an account from Outlook. That isn't exactly what I am shooting for. I want to keep my email connected with (Office 2021) Outlook, it's the Windows Mail and Calendar I want to disconnect. I also tried a link (Delete an email account from Mail and Calendar apps - Microsoft Support) in the article you linked for me, but it states that there is an option to delete an account from Windows Mail of which does not exist when I attempt to delete the account. Also, further within my linked article, attempting to turn off the account from the apps states there is an option to "Change mailbox sync settings" if I scroll down to Sync options both of which do not exist in my W mail app. So, I am at a road block it seems.

Any further suggestions?

Sorry be be obtuse, but are you saying that within Windows Mail app that there is no "gear icon" at the bottom from which you can select "manage accounts"?

If you do not EVER want to use the Windows Mail app or Windows calendar app why not uninstall them and keep Outlook 2021.
You would first need to go to settings>apps>default apps and make Outlook 2021 default for both mail and calendar

Hi glasskuter,

There is a gear icon and I can select "manage accounts," but from there I have only an option to Add an account, so it just shows my e-mail and add account. There is no option if I right click on my e-mail address either.

I want to keep the Windows calendar. I like it.

I just added Outlook as my default application for both Windows Calendar and Mail. Still no other options appear under Manage accounts.

The app "Calendar" is installed together with "Mail". But it is possible to use them separately.

If you are unable to delete the account in Mail, by uninstalling both using Revo (making sure you delete all leftover registry entries Revo finds) then restart. You can then reinstall Mail and Calendar from Microsoft Store, You should be able to open Calendar, add your account and set it to sync only the calendar.
