Solved MS Office 2019 Says 'There is a problem' And I Need To Log In Again - Won't Accept Password

I've been seeing 'Account Error' notice these last couple of weeks when starting Word or Excel. Everything works fine for what I use them for, but decided to sort it out today.

I click on the 'Fix Me' button and it asks for my password, which I'd saved previously as it contains letters, number and special characters, and it says it's wrong. I choose the option 'Forgot Password' and it sends me a confirmation code to my email address. I enter this and then it says because I have 2FA set up, I need further confirmation. This time it asks me to enter the last 4 digits of my phone number and the click 'Send code' to receive the next code. The only problem is that there is no 'Send code' option, but there is a 'Get code', so I click on that. It then tells me that 'There's a temporary problem with the service. Please try again. If you continue to get this message, try again later.'

Has anyone else had this issue, because that I have received that 'Account Error' before a couple of times, and it's always accepted my password.

Did you first enter the last 4 digits for your cell phone number associated with your Microsoft account? After you do that you should get a text message with the code.

Yes, I followed the procedure exactly as they instruct. It doesn't help when those instructions aren't even correct, but I clicked on the only button available after entering the number.

I have both Office 2019 and 2021. Sometimes I log into my Microsoft account but I usually don't. I find no need to.
Is there a reason you want to log into your Microsoft account?

I just tried it, and it took considerably longer that I was expecting. In my initial post I forgot to mention that it asked me to create a backup recovery email.

When I get to the MS Account page and start the login process, it again asked me to create a backup email address for recovery purposes, which I already have, but I did it anyway, and then after that, it took me straight to the Copilot site for some reason. I then used Copilot to try and answer the question. After lots of suggestions and providing as much information as possible, it suggested that instead of creating this recovery email, I simply press the 'skip for now' option that I had completely overlooked. That got me past whatever hiccup there was, so I tried the same process from within Word and the 'Fix Me' button and it worked.

Copilot suggested that the 'Account Error' message might have something to do with the re-verification process of MS Office. Thankfully it's sorted now.
