multi desktop

I'm trying it, it's just a bit slow when switching desktops to realign icons takes about 5 seconds
Yeah, you gotta have a decent amount of RAM for it to be fluent.
Play around with it, see what you think.

The program is really finicky, you have to study all the settings intensely to understand how it works.
For instance: the program treats each Desktop as a separate work environment..., actually as a separate User environment!
For example: You take a screenshot on Desktop 4, copy it then go to Desktop 1 and try to drop it there, you'll get an error saying "The file can't be found", however, if you go to the individual folders in your User folder, you can copy and paste from there!

And..., those folders will stay on their respective Desktops..., but accessible from your User folder even if you Quit Dexpot...

but you, the folders (desktop2, 3 and 4) do you have them on the main desktop? Anyway I have seen all the options and it looks nice. Only slow in arranging icons with every desktop change.

I'll have to admit, I do experience some strangeness with multiple monitors, one being a 4K monitor!

I'm having a way better experience with Dexpot on my Laptop..., one monitor, one resolution!
The Recycle Bin is common but can be moved around on each individual Desktop.
Some UWP Apps show up on every Taskbar though!
Hey @Ghot , now I can mount all my foobar stuff in a separate Desktop!!!

I've had this little Dexpot program since there was air!
Never really used it much til this Laptop!
It really gives me spaces to multitask well!

I am setting it for my purpose, I must say that to separate applications it behaves very well, beautiful the management of windows that can be moved in real time from one desk to another.

Unfortunately, however, the management of the desktop icons is too lacking, the multi-monitors are not supported well, I often lose the positions of the icons and I align them as he likes, all piled on one side, too bad!

I couldn't resist, I used DesktopOk and made a mini script that creates virtual desktops.
You have to download desktopOK (the 64-bit version, for now the script uses that fixed one but you can change it)
You launch it and in the current desktop a folder is created "TrueDesktops" with the virtual desktops inside it (for now 6, Desk1 .. Desk6).
It should also work under dexpot.
Test on a separate desktop or different user
Create icons and move them around. And change the desktop from the menu (thanks to AAcini)
Tell me what you think

Unfortunately it doesn't work well when there are files / folders open in a current desktop application ... My idea failed ... You can throw it in the trash ...

I know this thread is almost a year old, but I’m going to bump it up to see if anything has changed or if anyone is aware of any changes in the works.

I just built a new PC and went with Windows 11. A couple of things I apparently misunderstood was multiple desktops and the ability to run android apps.

I thought, like I think many apparently did, that multiple desktops would be just that.. the ability to quickly switch between different desktops with different desktop icons depending on what the user wanted on that desktop. That doesn’t appear to be the case.

Does anyone know if there are any updates in the works from Microsoft that will allow this?

I’m not really interested in any third-party apps to accomplish this.

Thanks.

Have a look at Dexpot
It's been a year but, Dexpot still works a treat on Dev Build 25309!!!

It's mind-boggling what this program is capable of..., let me rephrase that..., it's mind-boggling what Windows is capable of..., it's just a shame that such implementation most often has to be done with 3rd party software! 🤷‍♂️

Real virtual Desktops, real separate folders, real separate icons, real separate shortcuts, roll up windows, transparency, and tons more!
