My Haswell CPU features VBS but not without a hefty performance penalty when enabled.

Windows 11 Pro / Linux Manjaro
That's what I heard. It's getting late, but I will try to test this at some stage soon. Virtualisation-Based Security is supposedly not an issue for Intel 8th gen CPUs and newer. What I thought was a seemingly arbitrary line in the sand with regard to what CPUs get deemed Windows 11 compatible does not seem so arbitrary anymore.

In Windows 11 click on Windows Security in the taskbar, click Device Security, and then click "Core Isolation". When you try to enable Memory Integrity, it will probably fail if you're running old drivers. It'll probably fail anyway if you have a pre-Haswell CPU.

https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-v...UID-8361F64B-DE1D-4FF1-A9FC-4DDE7056DC23.html

In any case, when it does fail, you can review the incompatible drivers. VBS is very important in Microsoft's security push but the company is just lousy at communicating this. I'm assuming people working at Microsoft think us non-business customers are rubes.

So here's my Offenders List. Goodnight.

Hi,
Your link to vmware is appropriate for this feature since it's purpose is for people that use virtual machine bugs hide in system memory new threats hide in gpu memory next they will slow are gpu's down lol

People tend to think their safe using linux/.... in virtual machine but the host is windows majority of times and this is just silly

Only one person I've read is smart enough to use linux as the host instead of windows lol

Personally I just verify virtualization is disabled in bios along with blutooth ... and when I want to use another os linux/ win-10 now 11
I install which ever on it's own ssd and remove primary os and run it without sharing memory/... in vm.

I don't run VMs. I just have Manjaro on one SSD and Windows 11 on another, and then when I want to use Manjaro I press F8 during boot to select the Manjaro drive. The point of my post is to emphasize that hardware assisted VBS aligns with Microsoft's separation of CPUs into those that are WIndows 11 compatible and those that are not. Try to extract that information from Microsoft is very difficult. A bit of candour would go a long way to improving the company's reputation.

For example:

=========
Me to Hauppauge

Subject: Incompatible drivers preventing Memory Integrity activation in Window 11.

WinTV v8.5.37352 (with Extend)
Hi. Will Hauppauge resolve this issue, or has it been resolved in later WinTV editions, or will I have to toss my TV Card?

=========
Hauppauge to me:

Subject RE: Incompatible drivers preventing Memory Integrity activation i n Window 11.

Hello,
Driver development for that model product ended several years ago. The model will not get a further update to fix memory integrity.

=========
Me to Hauppauge

Subject RE: Incompatible drivers preventing Memory Integrity activation i n Window 11.

Ha! I appreciate your candour. 😊
I’ll get myself another Hauppauge TV card.
==========

See... We still have a beautiful relationship unlike with Microsoft "Help".

I am wondering if grub has the same issue as Windows. When Windows can't find an existing EFI partition on the drive I've selected for it, it will first search for EFI partitions on other drives to use. If it can't find any, only then will it create one. I've had to use BCDEdit on a few occasions to remove EFI boot entries that both Linux and Windows put on the wrong drive.

I ran a couple of games to see how VBS on an Intel i7-5960X (Haswell-E) impacts performance.

Cyberpunk 2077: MI Off = 66 - 77 FPS,
MI On = 47 - 53 FPS
Battlefield V: MI Off = 190 - 206 FPS
MI On = 159 - 191 FPS

Yeah, it impacts performance alright. Man, I would have loved to test BF2042 Open Beta...

I can see why Haswell is not on the Windows 11 CPU compatibility list. Microsoft is pushing to standardize enterprise level security on all PCs without it causing a performance hit. My old Haswell definitely does not make the grade.
