My PC started restarting after unexpected crash when idling or when I am away from the computer.

I began to notice this behavior a few weeks ago. The computer is a fairly new build from early January 2026 and I hadn't noticed this issue for the first few weeks. I have noticed that my PC isn't able to stay in sleep mode and it immediately wakes itself, I am not sure if this can be related. There have been no issues with crashes while I am using the computer or any signs of instability while using it but when I step away and the screen goes black sometimes it restarts itself when I come back or if I leave the computer on overnight. I am not sure what to do, but hope it is not a major hardware issue!

a) different driver versions can be tried.

b) plan to swap test the video card as needed.

Please perform the following steps:

1) Add WMIC:

DISM /Online /Add-Capability /CapabilityName:WMIC~~~~

2) Run Tuneup plus > post a share link

3) Enable regback:

4) Turn off Windows fast startup:

5) Create a new restore point:

6) Uninstall and reinstall the Nvidia GPU driver nvlddmkm.sys using DDU:

(make sure that the reinstalled version is different from 32.0.15.9174

7) For any new BSOD > post a new V2 share link into the newest post

In addition to the above I would suggest that you also try disabling C-States for all processors in the BIOS. I'm suggesting this based on the following...
  • The bugchecks in these dumps are all VIDEO_MEMORY_MANAGEMENT_INTERNAL (0x10E) with an exception code of 0x2D which indicates that a 'call to DdiMapCpuHostAperture failed, but was expected to succeed'. The DdiMapCpuHostAperture function 'maps an allocation that is resident in a local memory segment into the CPU host aperture in order to make it visible to the CPU'.
  • You mention that the BSODs only happen when the PC is idle and IMO that's an important clue. In the idle state the processors drop into a low-power C-State. A processor must transition into the high-power (running) C-State in order to run the DdiMapCpuHostAperture function. If the processor was in any way tardy in this power transition (and it does happen) then you may see this BSOD.
  • Disabling C-States for all processors stops the processors entering the low-power state when idle. This avoids the power transition when one of them needs to run the DdiMapCpuHostAperture function (or anything else).
I'm certainly not guaranteeing that this is the problem, the actions suggested above are all important too, but disabling C-States is worth a try.

Tuneup plus results were good.
That's great news I went through and did a clean and restart with the Display Driver Uninstaller and just reinstalled NVIDIA studio driver. I will let it sit today and observe if anything happens thank you! I was not sure how to just uninstall and reinstall nvlddmkm.sys however.

Ok! I replaced the driver version with a slightly older one version 32.0.15.7688. Before I was able to do that there was another BSOD this morning right when I tried to wake from sleep. TOM-PC-(2026-02-21_11-17-43).zip

1) Please read this link on Windows Driver Verifier (WDV):

Enable and Disable Driver Verifier in Windows 10

2) Create a new restore point

3) Learn the methods to recover from BSOD caused by WDV by booting into safe mode and running one or more of these commands:

verifier /reset

verifier /bootmode resetonbootfail

(option nine and seven)

4) Plan to run the tool with various customized test settings.

a) Test all non-Microsoft drivers

b) Test no Microsoft drivers

c) For the first run of WDV select the 3 customized tests displayed in the TF tutorial

5) Whenever the WDV tool is started if there is no immediate BSOD then open administrative command prompt and copy and paste:

verifier /querysettings

Post a share link.

Customized tests will then be posted for the next run of WDV.

WDV can run continuously during the testing.

For any BSOD post a new V2 share link into the newest post.
