Hi all

My OS seems stuck on 23H2

first, let me get out of the way that I am an eejit. I am pretty sure I limited the version that my Windows can upgrade to, but it may have been a previous install.

There is absolutely nothing in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate and there isn't a group policy.

Any ideas?

Many thanks in advance

Stuck how? 24H2 stability has been less than stellar and also Microsoft tends to stagger offering new versions via Windows Update. You can simply download the Windows iso and run it and do an in-place upgrade without losing apps/data.

24h2 through windows update has been blocked by MS from being downloaded to certain devices until MS and the vendors work out a ton-load of issues 24h2 is causing for some people. Once they do, you will eventually get 24h2 normally. There's a reason you haven't been offered 24h2.
I strongly disagree with the advice to force the upgrade with an iso. Do so at your own risk.

Welcome to Eleven Forum.

That HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdatekey is where you can specify a target release version, setting it to your current version would prevent Windows update offering a feature update to the next version. But if it's empty then you obviously haven't done that....

24H2 is on a phased rollout, only a very few machines are being offered it at first. Many of those for which there are no safeguard holds in place (those 'blocks' glasskuter talked about) are not seeing it offered yet, mine certainly aren't.

You can in fact use the target release version the other way round. If you set it for 24H2 then Windows update will find 24H2 and install it. I've done that for one of my three supported devices.

There are still some bugs in 24H2 though, so my other two will wait patiently for it to be offered through Windows Update in the normal way. Once MS have ironed out these bugs they should start accelerating the rollout. I suggest you wait for it to be offered too.

When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

You "could" install from the ISO and force the iinstall. Or just give it some time and let Microsoft work out some of the kinks with those it is rolling it out to.

There very well could be a reason that your device isn't being offered that update. And only Microsoft would know that reasoning, not anybody fro these forums.

There is a list of known issues here, and in the details section it says which ones have a 'compatibility hold' until they are resolved.

My OS seems stuck on 23H2
You could search the page for "compatibility hold" to see if any apply to your machine.
