Hi,

Does anyone else have experience with a NAS drive, I'm looking for an upgrade. I'm currently using a Synology DS720+ NAS 16TB (Hybrid RAID, BTRFS)

I'm using it to store photography, videos and website data.

As anyone used any other NAS apart from Synology, as I'm looking to switch.

Thankyou

I use a Buffalo LinkStation 220 8TB NAS but running as RAID 1 on 2 x 4TB HDDs. The included HDDs are Seagate IronWolf. Total storage is 3.6TB and I have 1.6TB free.

One suggestion, get at least a 4 bay NAS drive and make sure it has RAID 10, also known as RAID 1+0, which is a RAID configuration that combines disk mirroring and disk striping to protect data. It requires a minimum of four disks and stripes data across mirrored pairs. As long as one disk in each mirrored pair is functional, data can be retrieved. If one drive goes down, replace with a new of same size and spec and it will repopulate itself with zero data lost.

I'm looking for an upgrade.
Um... What kind of "upgrade"? What need to be upgraded in the current NAS? Speed? Capacity? Reliability? Something else?

As anyone used any other NAS apart from Synology, as I'm looking to switch.
This appears to imply a specific reason. How come it is not stated explicitly in the question?

@AndreyT , Just a hunch but, @Mister.T stated he had a NAS system ("I'm currently using a Synology DS720+ NAS 16TB (Hybrid RAID, BTRFS)") which appears to be a two drive NAS.

As shown here . . .
Synology DiskStation DS720+ NAS Server with Celeron 2.0GHz CPU, 6GB Memory, 16TB HDD Storage, 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD, 2 x 1GbE LAN Ports, DSM Operating System

Good reason to upgrade. I think without mention it only makes sense to not have to rely on merely 2 drives for a NAS with finger-crossing.

Ya, I'm looking for a NAS with 4+ bays (Speed, Capacity, Reliability), also looking at upgrading my UPS (CyberPower BR1200ELCD-UK BRICs Series) as I don't think it would work on a new NAS.

I think the only issue with a UPS is if it provides sufficient power during a power failure. They are not intended to run for very long, mostly long enough for saving open files and doing an orderly shutdown of devices plugged into them. I've a 1500W APC UPS, works for at least 15 minutes with Router, Modem, 2 computers, NAS and one monitor connected.
