Hello. I don’t know if this is the right place to get this help. I love this site and thought I would try.
I live in a rural area where there are not many internet providers available. I am trying to upgrade from 6.5 mbps to a higher download speed. Most Companies have very bad reviews on coverage. I did not like my current provider as they have data caps and are more expensive than others. After doing a lot of research I decided to try Jupiter 3 using my current Company Houghesnet. Their new Service is Jupiter 3 a Sattelite System. First I was told I would get 100mbps guaranteed. Then I found it was not guaranteed but expected. They cut my new equipment charge in half to $150. I went through a lot deciding on trying Jupiter3. Now I am wondering if it is worth it to upgrade.
Does anyone have any experience with Houghesnet Jupiter 3? Did you get 100mbps? Can anyone please let me know what I might experience getting new download speeds from 6.5 to close to 100 speeds? Will there be a noticeable difference? What will these changes be? I will have 1 Computer and 2 iPhones using this new system. Thanks!

Never heard of that provider. I ordered a Starlink so I also can't give a review there yet, but supposedly you can get up to 250Mbps and pretty much anywhere. Starlink comes with a 30 day guarantee to which you can return everything for a full refund.

Will you notice a difference between 6 and 100 Mbps, most likely, but also depends what you are doing and your usage needs.

I don't have direct experience with any satellite services, but from all I have read, Starlink is the defacto service of that kind to go with. You get much higher bandwidth, lower latencies (significantly so), and better reliability, especially in inclement weather. It's also easier to setup.

Never heard of that provider.

(snip)

Maybe you've heard oh Hughesnet.

(Edit: I see a couple of posters got in while I was composing.)

They've advertised in my area (western CT), but I don't know why. We had cable and phone company (DSL) at the time. The phone company has since offered fiber internet, and the cable company now has 2000/300 Mbps down/up.

I don't know how Hughesnet compares to Starlink at this time.

I suppose that "Zipsick" may live in an area with limited cell service. My sister in Las Cruces, New Mexico, get fixed wireless Internet from T-Mobile over the cellular network, mainly because it's inexpensive. It requires access to a 5G network, though, which means it wouldn't be an option for me.

That’s a bold claim “Expected 100Mbps” You’re rural, it’s a tough call. Many variables, line of sight, weather.
However if it isn’t a contracted service and you’re paying month to month, just try it.
If it is a contracted service, I would suggest researching local resources like community groups in your area. There would have to be one? The locals must complain or praise their services.
Do you have a local community Facebook Group or something?

    …still on a horse.
Starlink is the better, no comparison. I have had both and still use Starlink for the last two years. The residential plan is $120.00/mo for 150+Mbps with no data caps. Mine usually runs much faster. Very reliable, has not gone down ever since I got it. There is a subforum on reddit where it is discussed. You won't regret.
