Solved Need build number for Win11 Pro v22h2

I generally do a clean-install late every year after the current RTM build of Windows has been released -- which I get in ISO form using UUPDUMP.

So, does anyone know the actual build number for Win11 Pro v22h2 RTM?

Do you want the final 22H2 with no updates, or the latest with all updates that is still 22H2?

The final, according to the other uup site, is 22621.2361:

However, you can also get the .ISO directly from Microsoft, though it will be an older version (Not 100% sure if it is the original final release or not) from:

RTM is 22621.525, but the last official 22H2 ISO release is 22621.1702 (May 2023) or "v2".

I guess I asked the wrong question. -- got my numbers confused.

Since this is 2023, then what I am looking for is the 23H2 release -- and my guess is that it is 22621.2500.

Is that correct?

No. 22631.2428 I believe is the latest build.

No, not if you are looking for the public RTM release, aka the General Availability Channel.

23H2 has not been released to GA yet, the current latest public release is 22H2 build 22621.2428 We are probably only weeks away from the public launch of 23H2, at which time MS will make new 23H2 ISO's available. Your best course of action would be to wait a few weeks for the new ISOs.

When 23H2 is released the upgrade will be offered through Windows Update and will be performed by installing a small Enablement Package.

On the Insider channels things are different. The Insider Release Preview Channel is now on 22H2 build 22621.2500
The 23H2 Enablement Package has already been released to Insiders, and if applied will take the RP build up to 23H2, 22631.2500.

You're either on an Insider Release Preview build, or you've used the 'in-place upgrade trick' to fool the download servers into giving you the enablement package before it's been officially released. The OP is looking for the latest publicly available RTM build.

And that is still the case -- as of 14 November, the GAC is now 22631.2715 but the MCT-built ISO from MS is still 22621.2428.

And yeah, I know I can install with 22621.2428 and easily upgrade to 22631.2715 -- but that is not what I want to do.

I want to clean-install with the public RTM version of 23H2.

OK, -- so I should have mentioned that I have used UUPDUMP numerous times (and indeed, have built a 22631.2506 and 22631.2715 ISOs with it), but I want to get RTM version of the ISO from MS, and don't understand this late into the year, why the MCT-built version is STILL not 22631.nnnn.

The MCT was updated to make 23H2 build 22631.2715 about 30 hours ago....

It now makes an ISO win an install.esd that's larger than 4GB. If you want a usb, then you'll need to make it directly using the MCT, it will split the install.esd into two smaller files.

if you choose to make a USB, then for the first time ever the MCT makes a Fat32 usb containing an install.swm and install2.swm

To add, the MCT still says it requires a minimum 8GB USB Thumb drive. I also get the .iso used to create/burn the bootable DVD+R/DL disc.

Technically, that's true.
It's actually 5.2GB of files, but USB's don't usually come in sizes between 4GB and 8GB, so you'd have to use an 8GB one anyway.

Those ISO's are RTM versions, assembled by files pulled directly from the MS Servers.

OK, so if you use the MCT locally, then you get 22621.2715 with install.esd, but if you download directly, you get 22621.2428 with install.wim.

I think I've got it straight,now.

Yeah, I understand that, but what is confusing to me is that there appears to be several different RTM versions of Win11 23H2, including all of the following: 22621,2506, 22621.2715, 22631.2715 -- so I don't know WHICH one is the OFFICIAL one (or even if that is a correct term anymore).

I have ISOs of all three, so all I really need to do is be told which of these to use for the Win11 23H2 RTM clean-install.

I just downloaded the latest MCT and created a new installation USB and downloaded the ISO. Both are 22621.2715. Why?

Any of them will do. Let Setup check for updates during install (or check yourself after installing) and you'll get 22631.2715.

22H2 and 23H2 share a common set of system files, but the new features are dormant in 22H2. For 23H2 they are turned on by a small enablement package that installs like a CU.

Dism reports the official 23H2 media from Microsoft as being 22621 because that's what the base system files are, but it also included the 23H2 enablement package which gets installed during setup. Despite what dism reports, it will in fact install as 22631.
