Every time I open my browser, a persistent and annoying pop-up appears, disrupting my workflow and causing frustration. Despite my best efforts to block or disable it, the pop-up continues to randomly reappear. Can someone provide detailed steps on how to identify the source of this pop-up and effectively prevent it from showing up again? With this pop-up I also at times get another pop-up with a red dialog box saying McAfee has detected a virus and will scan your system, then it disappears quite quickly. I have run various virus scans with Norton 360 Deluxe, and the scans don’t show anything. I’ve not installed any programs nor visited any web sites other than my normal sites. I have two computers and it started on one then after a week on the other one. I've not transferred any files between the two computers. My research on the web indicates that the pop up is a fake url but doesn’t explain how to prevent / resolve it from occurring. . I would hate to do a clean install if it could be prevented. I’ve reported it to Norton but never heard back from them.. Help....

I have experienced a similar issue with Edge. It is very likely that, unintentionally or without realizing it, you have given permission to a website to show you notifications. My recommendation is that you delete all temporary files and cookies from your browser, and reset the permissions of all the websites (especially the permissions related to notifications). That is, do a complete browser cleanup.

As a suggestion for future reference I have found Fire Fox to be among one of the more trustworthy browsers for blocking pop ups and disposing of malware. I realize Edge is made for MS OS but this is also half the reason why it is also consistently exploited. Start Page is also a very good search engine but Fat Cat Corporate browsers i.e. GOOGLE, primary goal is to make merchandise of your PC for other companies to profit by and Edge is no exception. Again, this is only a suggestion but I've saved myself from a great deal of grief using Fire Fox and Start Page.

Gave Dell touch screen with Windows 11 to daughter and got me an OTVOC. Being a PC builder I own many desktop PCs as well. I am a father of five providing PCs, laptops, and tablets for all my family, most of which I have modified, rebuilt, or simply built from scratch. I do not own a cell phone, never have, never will.
very helpful suggestions which I will incorporate--Thanks

i get them from malwarebytes browser guard.

nothing was downloaded or installed to your computer as the connection was severed by your AV software.
best of luck, Steve ..

For the most part one thing Microsoft has right is good AV software. If you want something with more oomf I recommend Kaspersky. McAffe is among the worst of the worse. You're better off running your OS without these third party AV apps and staying with what MS provides. This is especially true of newer, Windows 11 compatible hardware. Many third party AV applications deal in "scare ware", false alarms that signal threats where no such threat exists. As long as your security in your Windows 11 is activated and up to date you really don't need more AV apps bogging down the efficiency of your laptop.
