need to convert replace true HD in an mkv file with AC3 or similar

what is the best way to do this, hopefully without losing quality and causing lip sync issues

There are a couple of various things you can do

-You could re-download a better-spec version of the (video) file that has better audio

-You could also convert the audio portion of your current file using avidemux or handbrake to a different codec, which is what I do sometimes. Rule of thought is you make the new audio version a bigger size if you're increasing the volume.

perfect result, set to matroska, copy video and convert audio.....simple
