@MisterEd, maybe not an ideal solution but you can adjust the fan speed in app like Armoury Crate in order the fans to kick in at lower temps thus the nvme will also cool down. I was thinking if you add a heatsink, this is a passive cooling, and all the heat from the ssd will go towards the other components and some of them doesn't have a sensor to tell the system that they're overheating and it will damage them.

I normally keep it in Performance mode. I could change to Turbo or even Manual and increase the fan speeds. However, I normally like to have things be quiet when I play games.

I plan to buy the copper heatsinks in a few days after things settle down. Hopefully they will fit OK in the laptop.

BTW, the computer came with a thin metal heatsink placed on the SSD in socket #1. Socket #0 was empty. Now the data SSD is in socket #1 and the boot SSD is in socket #0. That means the data SSD now has the metal heatsink.

The end of the era of gaming laptops?
New computer components consume more power and consequently heat up more. No amount of passive cooling will help.
In a year I will throw away my laptop and build a desktop. And get a PCIe 5.0 SSD.

It is probably better to focus on the drive itself first, rather than the heatsink. There is nothing to dissipate heat from the drive in the laptop.

There is nothing to dissipate heat from the drive in the laptop.
There is. The ventilation holes in the bottom cover are strategically placed so as a result at least some airflow is directed onto the SSDs. The only real problem is that this alone isn't sufficient for keeping the controller chip of a modern, fast, NVMe SSD happy. Most of the air that gets sucked in by the fans enters via all the other numerous ventilation holes some of which are comparatively a lot larger so, one part of the combined effect is weak airflow hitting directly onto the SSDs. The video I linked in my previous post in this thread reveals that adding a thin copper heatsink does help, but adding more airflow also in addition to this (i.e., by placing the laptop on a cooling pad) is going to help more. Lots and lots and lots more. Refer to the temperature related parts of the video review linked below and immediately you will see the magnitude of what difference this makes.

With the Samsung 980 Pro there is a 0.5mm height difference between the controller chip and the memory chips so, using scissors or a sharp stanley knife to cut each one of both pads to the length required, you can put a piece of thermal pad that is 0.5mm thick on the controller chip and another piece of thermal pad that is 1.0mm thick on the memory chips. (Both pads come included with the kit that was mentioned earlier in this thread, but this kit is listed by multiple different vendors on amazon, usually at the same price but with different brand names so, you should check the various descriptions before you buy.) So, cutting them like this will compensate for the height difference. But most other NVMe SSDs (other than the 980 Pro) don't have any such height difference AFAIK so, if yours doesn't have, then choosing the thinner of the two thermal pads should be the way to go, if we can assume that both pads have the same thermal conductivity rating. This is because the thinner pad will give you 0.5mm more clearance between the heatsink and the bottom cover of the laptop compared to the other pad. Whereas the thicker pad might give you the risk of not being able to screw the laptop's bottom cover back on, either because it simply can't fit or because the heatsink blocks the ventilation holes that are supposed to let in the air.
