OK last week I wrecked my Asus Vivobook by stupidly messing around trying to loosen up some RAM, as it was suggested that a slowing machine could be made a little faster by doing that.
To cut a very long story short (and a few hours chatting to AI) , I or it ended up with a Code 0xc0000225 and taking it to the techs in town was told that the drive ws probably failing and it was going to cost me around $600-$800 for a fix if they could even do one. I thought at he tme thye didn't seem to be overly helpful if you get what I mean, and on the way home I decided to just buy a new Vivobook which I have.
Now while I am waiting I tried to get data and personal stuff off the backups I had made with AOMEI and horror of horrors, the filing system in that software demanded that I pay for the software before I could retrieve the stuff I wanted even when using the trial version, it still insists on the money.
My other machines are also backed up using that software, and it now annoys the living heck out of me that if I tried to retrieve those machines' data etc AOMEI would still hold out their greedy hand.
So has anyone got any suggestions fr a software for backup, cloning etc that is free or reasonably priced as I don't mind paying something but not the prices that AOMEI was asking for.

Did you install AOMEI Backupper Free to your new laptop and then tried to install your backup to it?

Do you demand that a single application back up both personal data and your "system", or are you willing to consider separate applications for each task? For most people, personal data is far far more important and there are several software packages that back up data for free. They aren't complex and don't involve "imaging" or "cloning". If worse comes to worse, you should be able to reinstall your OS and applications from scratch regardless.....not that anyone looks forward to that.
