Solved .NET Framework 3.5 & 4.8 OR .NET v 6.0.4?

I recently installed .NET v 6.0.3, which has now been updated to v 6.0.4.

Do I still need to keep .NET Framework 3.5 & 4.8 installed? Or can I remove these from my system?

The way I understand it is that if you have applications installed that requires a certain version of .net, if you remove that version, that app will no longer run. The same principal applies to visual C++ versions.

I do not know how to determine which installed app depends on which .net version, but I'm sure there are powershell commands to do this. Maybe one of the powershell gurus will step in and tell you how.

It is up to it the developers of software to transition their app to use a later version of .net. Many .net versions have reached end of life and Microsoft no longer issues security updates for them.

There are some apps that still depend on .NET 3.5 and this is the reason I always install it even on fresh Windows installs. Most users don't need 3.5 but I know I do.

.NET 4.8 dependencies are way more common and I don't recommend uninstalling it. A lot of apps depend on it. Not sure if Windows 11 still has any 4.8 dependencies but Windows 10 certainly has.

Windows 11 comes preinstalled with .NET 4.8 by default and thus has dependencies. Check this out for further information.
