Network Help Please

At first I was amazed with (I have a lot of terabytes of data on the desktop ...) you have to record it all on hdd external if there are pictures and videos and only have programs on the desktop so how to boot your computer, sorry but I'm not clear I read your post carefully and it caught my eye. I'm sorry.
My desktop is ‘self contained’ meaning all day-to-day storage is in the case. So it Boots normally. I do have a handful of external drives I use for backup and such.

I fired up the utility called Speccy to get more accurate size info.

So inside this computer I have:

1) 1TB SSD in two 500MB partitions, one being my Win 7 Pro OS.

2) Two 5TB HDDs each split roughly in half for 4 more partitions. These are for my photos and videos.

Ok, but as far as I know from the experience of fat that so many files with a lot of GB is not good for the computer, you better put icons with a link to those files and it will be different, believe me it will also open up to you to have it on your desktop as a shortcut

I, too, am extremely confused. I am assuming you have installed Snagit on both computers.

On Laptop EBUE1VH9, there is a folder named Snaggit Screenshots. I am assuming this is the folder you are going to use for your Saved Captures. On your BRUZ2-Skylake desktop, there is a folder named SnaggitShots (which according to what you said is stored on one of your external drive partitions). Are there .snag files in this folder? If yes, this is your Unsaved Captures folder (Snagits Datastore).
I did a little digging. Per Techsmith's site, you can not work on an unsaved capture file over a network share.. ..period. (See post 6 on this page https://support.techsmith.com/hc/en...2-Shared-Folder-for-Snagit-Working-Directory-
Therefore, it appears the program is what is blocking you from accessing it's datastore folder.

I use the NT file system (NTFS), not FAT or FAT32 on all drives (except small USB thumbdrives). They say “NT” stands for New Technology. I stopped using FAT(32) when I upgraded to Windows XP.

Here’s an article on it if interested. It shows file size and drive size possibilities.

The only way I can see of what MIGHT work to be able to work on these unsaved capture files on the laptop is to copy them to a flash drive, and then copy them into the Snagit Datastore directory on the laptop. The program may have the file blocked. If you can't unblock through file properties you would have to take ownership of it before Snagit on the laptop would let you work on it.

Again I apologize for the SnagIt red herring. I don’t really care about sharing SnagIt shots specifically. The main end result is I want to share things between my two desktops. They are about 50-55 feet away from each other. And doing this testing on my wife’s computer is a great hassle as she’s using it, it’s under a desk so it’s hard to even stick a thumbdrive in it, and so on.

I figured once I learn how to do this between the laptop (which is sitting on my desk) and my computer, then (hopefully) I can network to her computer on my own. I want to easily share ‘my’ photos and videos with her.

I, too, am extremely confused. I am assuming you have installed Snagit on both computers.

On my laptop and desktop, yes. On the wife’s computer, no, not needed; she doesn’t even know how to use MS Snipit (or whatever it’s called).

Therefore, it appears the program is what is blocking you from accessing it's datastore folder.

Thank you for your research, it is appreciated for sure. But, let’s forget about SnagIt folders for a moment. I still can’t network with the newly created folder on the laptop. I’m not too bright and need help.

As for Networked printers, I have 2 HP Pro printers attached via Ethernet cable to my Wireless Router, don't have to Share but simply install as the Network choice in the process. Other choices usually are USB and Wireless or Wireless Direct. No one computer has to be running and any computer wired or wireless I install the software on shows them as a direct connection, don't have the print spooler/server issue others have had.

As for "fat", FAT32 is still in use but Windows has a limitation of partition size at 32GB and single-file-size of 4GB even though Windows can read and write to at least 500GB. I use GPARTED on Linux Mint for the partitioning and formatting of 64GB and larger, HDDs, SSDs, SDHC memory cards and Thumb drives. Mac OS X and maybe the newer macOS can read NTFS but has trouble writing to them. SDHC cards best done in the camera to be used in to assure compatibility.

Windows XP Pro was the first Version available as either x86/32-bit or x64/64-bit, still have a copy of Pro and a computer with WinXP.
