I have a new Windows 11 laptop that I am setting up and need to sync via wireless network to load data from my old Windows 10 laptop. I can see the old laptop in the Win 11 Network but clicking on it just gives the menu for Credentials needed. I have tried every password and username I can think of. I even added a Windows username and password credential on the Win 10 laptop but it is not accepted by Win 11 laptop. Help and Thank You.

I am assusing you HAVE set up sharing on both machines, both have network set as private, and you have set your shared folder permissions as " Everyone." (correct?)
Set up sharing on whichever user folders you wish. You should not share the entire C drive..
That said, All kinds of networking issues are a result of Microsoft tightening security for Windows 11 24h2 and above.

Create a Windows credential for an account & password on all computers on your network you are sharing files between. It must be a password, not a pin. While you can still use a pin to login to your device, you must restart the device and log into it using a password at least once for this to work.

Even if you are using the same MS account on your other computer, a credential should be created.

In other words, Each computer should have a credential for each of the other computers it is sharing files or printers to/from.
To create a credential:
Go to Control Panel>Credentials> Windows Credentials>add a windows credential

In the "Internet or network address" box, type the name of the computer on the network that you want to access.
In the User name and Password boxes, type the user name and password that you use for that computer, and then click OK.
Note: It must be a password, not a pin.

Glasskutter, Thanks for the detailed reply. I am following the instructions and will reply when I have finished. I changed my Win 11 login from Pin to Password. Win 11 is picky what it will allow me to use as a password.

I carefully took all of the steps in Glasskuttter's post and no joy. One term I had difficult understanding was the word account for the network. I just selected a user name and password for the credential. The computer I was trying to connect to showed the user name but would not accept the password. I am trying to share data between a Win 10 and Win 11 laptop. I am about to give up on networking with Win 11 after enjoying that function for many years.

Thanks Dennis. That looks like a project. I noticed that I do not have Workgroups so that might be one of the problems. I will work on your steps when I get time. Since I am retired I guess that should be when I feel up to it. My external HD will work in the meantime and maybe forever.
