Solved Network icon has gone

I noticed today that my Network icon is missing from the Taskbar. I've tried all the suggestions from Google etc but nothing works.
A screenshot of my desktop from 31/12 doesn't have it either. My Virtualbox machine has it as does another PC in the house.

I assume you have been into settings>personalisation>taskbar>taskbar corner overflow
Have you any 3rd party taskbar tools installed?

Yes it's not in the overflow menu, nope I've never installed any 3rd-party toolbar tools

but it's showing in settings>personalisation>taskbar>taskbar corner overflow so I wonder have you got an upward arrow on you taskbar? if so click on it and see if it is in there, if so drag it out

it's NOT in the overflow, I don't have an arrow.

I am sorry I can't think of anything else at the moment, if I do I will let you know. Hopefully someone else (with more knowledge) will pick it up

I only noticed it was missing today. It's definitely been there before. The network is working properly, no problems at all.

It's a known issue. If you shutdown via shutdown.exe /s /t 5 and boot again it should load correctly.

That's for WiFi not ethernet. I don't have WiFi enabled

I'm not an expert, but I played with some settings, and there is a registry setting called ReplaceVan . There are 3 settings. Maybe checking it's value will help you. If you open Regedit and search (F3) for ReplaceVan you should find it. I am putting a link to a discussion about it. I hope it helps.

I don't actually have a Network System icon to change the open target too, that's the problem. It's a proper mystery because I've definitely seen it there before.

Try to uninstall and re-install network card/s drivers via Device manager. Do a reboot if needed. Before you begin , note the version and date of uninstall drivers and create a system "restore point" , just in case.

try this, open a RUN dialogue box and paste the next line in it and run it.

shell:::{05d7b0f4-2121-4eff-bf6b-ed3f69b894d9} \SystemIcons

This will show which system icons are shown or hidden, and at the bottom you can select the next screen to Turn System Icons On Or Off. Hopefully this will help.

I got this. The options are greyed out and not available, the options at the bottom do nothing

I am using the old Win10 taskbar and the options work for me with that command, but maybe they don't work on the default new Win11 taskbar(?) or maybe you do not have the privileges needed. I never claimed to be an expert, but I did a lot of playing around when I setup my Windows 11. I would put the command I posted in a search engine with the words "grayed out" and see if it offers anymore help. Sorry it didn't work.
