I have two PCs on a private network for sharing files etc.
This works most of the time but occasionally, on one PC only, the "Network profile type" dialogue in settings app disappears and sharing is then not functional.
IP address of both PCs are static.
If I select "Edit" next to IP assignment on the offending PC, but don't actually change anything, then "Save", the missing dialogue reappears and sharing of files is then functional once again.
I can't begin to understand what is happening here nor can I "fix" it!
Any suggestions gratefully received.
Since you asked, my question is if you want consistent access and will be changing computers later on? What I did is attach a NAS drive to my Router via Ethernet cable. Any computer I'm on that can reach the Router can have the Public folder on the NAS drive Mapped in File Explorer whether Wired or Wireless/Wi-Fi. Nice part is no one computer has to be on, just the Router and the drive, and I store many files on it. The Internet works as usual but is not required except for the NAS drives that provide remote access which I do not have a need for. If I change or add a machine I just Map that folder, have done it for quite awhile now and things can change such as the software used, main purpose is access to files I use or store.
