Never used AI.

I am now 70 but was always a geek so what can AI do for me in for example MS Office. Writing some letter or setting up a spread sheet for a budget / expenses sheet? Any pointers to web articles or amazon books would help. Thanks. Is there a section here for AI as I could not find one?

You would be able to find it in The Windows Store if you wanted to use Copilot or Just search for AI.

No, there's not a section of the forum specific to AI but there is one for Office & Productivity. But it's fine to ask your questions here in this one.

One thing all the different AI tools have in common is what one gets out of AI is totally dependent on how one words his questions and the amount of relative information one puts into those questions.

If you use Microsoft 365, co-pilot is integrated into all of 365's apps. However, you are not locked into using only co-pilot. You can ask any AI tool of choice to create a word doc and then copy and paste the AI output into any word application you use.

I use AI like I used Google. Mainly to answer questions and such or do searches. Sometimes I've used it to generate images of things. Nothing spectacular like videos of dancing pink elephants or anything. I completely agree that what one gets out of AI is totally dependent on how one words his questions and the amount of relative information one puts into those questions as glasskuter said. Also, at time ChatGPT has been explicitly wrong on things and I've had to correct it.

I guess this makes me old school. I don't use ai. I use google search in FF but removed the ai summary from it. I found that summary limited what I thought about. I always figured I could do a better job of getting information than the many various softwares all competing with each other and trying to direct me in their chosen direction. Like sugar coated breakfast cereal ads on Sat am TV lol.

- In this world with, what, 7 or 8 billion people, each of which wants me to believe as they do (they always have. so what else is new???) it is a challenge to stay focused. But I find it is worth the challenge as I waste far less time. The only problems you can solve are your own. But, each to his/her/their own!!! My way is only the best way... for me.

Given all the latest bad press and the fact several major U.S. banks are actively blocking and restricting third-party AI apps and agents from accessing customer accounts I don't think I would trust any AI with my finances. Banks have detected AI agents performing independent actions that customers never explicitly authorized, including moving their money around. Many users are giving their direct banking usernames and passwords to apps like Grokbot, Meta Muse, or Instinct.
