To enable the new Start Menu or Battery Icon, use the registry patches at the bottom of this post.
To disable the new Start Menu and Battery Icon... just delete the "14" key (folder), located here... HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\FeatureManagement\Overrides\14

odd that the battery works on my test laptop, ONLY if sab is enabled. if i disable sab and use the win 11 taskbar, the regular battery icon without percentage is shown. with sab its colored and shows percentage... just a side note for anyone that cannot get the new battery icon to show even after enabling

nope. i uninstalled sab to test on that laptop. doesnt work then either. only when sab taskbar is enabled. idk why

its been that way so not sure what he can change. the vivetool /enable never worked either until i turned on sab. just tried the reg to see if it made it work regardless but, no go

As per you PM request, I've tested the battery icon on my System One. It works as described.
Note: whether or not it displays a percentage is controlled by a toggle switch in Settings > System > Power & battery.

Removing Override 14 and restarting returned it to 'normal'. I'll now wait to see how long before MS starts rolling it out...

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.

Thanks. As I mentioned I had no way of testing on my desktop.
Did it require StartAllBack to be enabled? See posts 2 thru 6 above.
Or did you only need the toggle switch in Settings?

All my systems are 'as Microsoft installed them' - no third party 'modifier' apps like StartAllBack have ever been installed.

The toggle appeared in Settings when override 14 for the battery had been added. The default is 'off'.

so whats more odd is that when i had it only working with the enhanced taskbar on, i went ahead and disabled it via vivetool command, restarted and ensured it was no longer active

i then ran

now it is activated and functional with the default windows 11 taskbar... BUT

the registry key you posted does not exist. i, instead, have:

Would any of you happen to know what settings to use to force the new File Explorer dark mode? Just for clarification, I'm talking about some of the dialogs such as the dialog displayed while copying files. I got that update on one machine so far and it just looks so much matter that I would really like to enable that on my other systems.

yes, i'm tracking what you post meant. but what i was stating is that when creating that (your reg file) key, it doesnt work on my system unless the enhanced taskbar is active (sab). when i run the vivetool command, it does work on the default taskbar (sab disabled), but it creates a reg entry in a different key, and also contains a different value.

this convo is on 2 different tracks. i'll just leave what i posted for anyone that may have issues enabling it. its not related to sab. it activates via a different reg key (FeatureManagement Overrides 4 ) but i dont know why. oh well.

When mine stopped working under the old vivetool codes I tired this new one which is for a cluster of features and it restored the dark mode dialogs for me. It also restored the taskbar emoji icon that had also stopped working and disappeared.

vivetool /enable /id:57048231
