New build need help with AMD CPU

Here is my mobo
MSI X670E GAMING PLUS WIFI Gaming Motherboard (AMD Ryzen 9000/8000/7000 Series Processors, AM5, DDR5, PCIe 5.0, SATA 6Gb/s, M.2 slots, USB 3.2 Gen 2, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, 2.5Gbps LAN, HDMI/DP,ATX)

First I chose the 7800x3d CPU

But I really want to go with this CPU
AMD Ryzen™ 9 7900X3D 12-Core, 24-Thread Desktop Processor

Here is my video card
XFX Speedster QICK319 RX 7800 XT CORE Gaming Graphics Card 16GB GDDR6 HDMI 3xDP, AMD RDNA 3 RX-78TQICKF9
With these combinations am I good?
Any advice any recommendations is appreciated

The one question I would ask is what is the purpose of this build? If mostly for gaming the 7800X3D is the absolute best choice. If mainly for production type work then the 7900X3D would be the better choice. Matter of fact if no gaming then skip the X3D and just go for the plain 7900X.

The problem with the 7900X3D is it uses two 6 core CCDs which induces some lag when communicating between the CCDs. The 7800 is a single 8 core CCD. The 7950 uses two 8 core CCDs. For gaming generally one of the CCDs is parked while gaming meaning you're really only using one of the 6 Core to game on. So the advantage here is gaming on 6 cores(7900) vs 8 cores(7800).

Just got an AMD based Desktop with Ryzen 7 7700X and Radeon 7800XT--I thought about getting 7800X3D, but sadly they didn't have one with the specs i wanted--meaning AMD Processor and Radeon Video card.

But 7700X still games very well in my eyes, Im sure 7800X3D would be a great gaming chip with proper cooling, and Case with Airflow to keep it cool

This case i have now--Lian Li LanCool 216 keeps it so cool, provided the room is cool as well

Just remember those are not gaming benchmarks but more Productivity type. More cores almost always wins.

But what is the purpose of having a 4.2 PC and then spend the rest of the time over clocking it to get 5.0
When I have 5.6 out of the box 🎁

The X3D CPUs tend to have slower clocks due to the sensitivity of the extra cache. Compare non 3D CPUs clocks to their comparable 3Dvcache versions.

Those aren't single core benchmarks. "Single CPU" means, literally, a single CPU. Server motherboards can have multiple physical sockets and CPUs.

You might be interested in single thread benchmarks:


The champ there is the I9-14700KS. In the AMD line, Ryzen 9 9950X. But the range in single-thread performance is surprisingly narrow. 4870 for an I9-14900KS ($631, 150/253W), 4202 for a Ryzen 7 7700X ($275, 105W). The I9 is 16% above the Ryzen 7.

If I was building an AMD system now, I might be tempted by the Ryzen 9000 series. There are no 9000X3D CPUs yet, though.
