Solved New ISO Standalone For Windows 11 - Anyone Know When ?

Microsoft has updated the media creation tool to instal the latest version and updates for 25H2 but the standalone version of the ISO is over 2 months old.
I do not want to download an ISO using media creation tool as I don't think that has a hash that can be verified whereby the standalone ISO has a hash.

I did ask copilot as to when new versions of the standalone version are released and got a convoluted reply which wasn't very helpful.
I need this when it is available to do an inplace upgrade of another windows 10 machine to 11 which I have done before.

I don't want the "old" version as I still use ADSL and it would take sometime to instal the large cumulative updates.

The direct download ISO is hardly ever updated. Only the MediaCreationTool image is typically refreshed. But there is no set schedule for updated images, sometimes it will get updated because MS wants to "bake in" recent security or stability fixes so everyone gets them at a minimum.

If you check a year from now, the direct download ISO will probably be unchanged from now. 24H2 never got a refreshed ISO.

To find a more recent ISO, then use the MCT to create one. That's the way MS intended for this process to work.

Microsoft are slow to update their standalone ISOs. The same happened for Windows 10, the MCT for 22H2 has been updated multiple times and currently make 19045.3803. The 22H2 ISO has been updated just the once to 19045.2965.

The MCT downloads the components to create the ISO. Once downloaded it performs its own SHA256 verification of the download, only if it passes will it use it to build the ISO.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven below to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

It takes less than 15 min....all the while you're doing something else. No matter how old an iso is, only ONE cumulative is downloaded for the OS and one for .net.

If you don’t have an issue with downloading a 7GB ISO, you certainly shouldn’t have an issue downloading a Cumulative Update.

When you download via the MCT, you may note that immediately after the download, the MCT verifies the download. That is it checking the checksum, so it should be 100% reliable.

As for the large size of the cumulative update, that brings up an interesting question: Microsoft now has the ability to publish a differential update and a checkpoint update, but they have never once updated the original checkpoint making the resulting differential update ballon to the huge size that it is now. I have wonder why they went through all the effort of coming up with this checkpoint / differential scheme only to never actually use it.

Most of the CU's bloat is taken up by AI models bundled in the package. Even assuming a 90/10 split of non-AI vs AI PC's, it makes terrible sense not splitting the AI software to its own separate update like how .NET is handled.

Thanks for your replys. A few weeks ago when I installed the then "new" official iso for 25h2 as an in place upgrade on my windows 10 22h2 machine there were at least two if not three cumulative updates that had to be installed, not just one as some people have reported here. I realise some people don't use copilot but I did ask the question at the time and the answer was there would be a few cumulative updates to instal, not just the one.Also as a seperate issue I can remember microsoft or its representatives saying several months ago that monthly updates for Windows 11 would be smaller than those for Windows 10 I have yet to see this happen and doubt they ever will.

- a single Windows Cumulative update, and
- a single .Net framework cumulative update.

You could, of course, create your own ISO image with the updates integrated into it. For most people, UUP DUMP is probably the easiest way to do this, but if doing this yourself is of any interest to you, let me know and I can provide a batch file that will do it for you.

But you're back to the OP's same objection against MCT, there is no verified hash for any UUP dump image...

In reply to Try3 I had two cumulative updates KB5065426 and KB5066835 and KB5066128 the latter for Net Framework. These were all installed on 10th November. On 11th November I had the "pleasure" of installing KB5068861 the November "ordinary" cumulative update

I cannot explain that.
KB5065426 is the September CU whilst KB5066835 is the October CU.
Given your installation date of 10th November, I would have expected your Windows to install just October's KB5066835.
