New mobo / cpu boot question

I just upgraded my mother board and cpu in order to run Windows 11 ..... yeah I know I said I wasn't gonna do it , I had been running Linux for the past few moths but it was playing games with my work stuff and if it wasn't for a sweet deal I found on a motherboard / cpu combo I don't think I would have done it.

My new setup contains a Gigabyte Z790 GAMING PLUS AX motherboard with an Intel i9-12900K unlocked cpu with Windows 11 24H2 with all the latest updates.
My question is , if I simply reboot the system everything is fine and normal but from a complete shut down , on boot it will boot directly into the bios by itself, once I click save and exit in the bios even without changing anything it will then boot into Windows 11. I am thinking there may be something in the bios I overlooked or missed ? would anyone know what may be causing this?

Probably Windows 11 fast startup. Open a command prompt with admin privileges (run as administrator) and run the command:
powercfg -h off

This will turn off the hibernate function which will also disable Windows 11 fast startup. See if that fixes the problem.

That didn't do it, after running the command I shut down completely and started back up and it booted into the bios again. I turned off fast boot completely in the bios and that seemed to work ..... go figure?

Fast Boot in the BIOS is different than Fast Startup in Windows.
Fast Boot in the BIOS finishes only part of the POST (power on self test), before booting... to speed the boot time.
When enabled in the BIOS, it sometimes causes problems like you were experiencing.

NOTE: I always disable Fast Boot. IMO the POST should be allowed to complete.

I know there is a bios update for this board that is available that I have not done yet that would have probably corrected the issue , even though with Gigabyte boards it will update the bios for you so you don't have to flash it but I dread having to do it , it's always a nail biter.

That's another thing I always do... flash the BIOS manually (using a USB flash drive), from within the BIOS.
That way, the only thing that can bork the BIOS flash, is a power failure.

It's still a nail biter... but just one nail.
