When I tried using the new outlook app (that replaced windows mail) with Windows 10, the setting "send notifications with outlook closed" (with Outlook notifications on in settings etc) did not work.

It didn't work for my microsoft email account or gmail email account that i had added to the new Outlook app.

With the outlook app open, I received windows notifications normally within a few seconds for both email accounts. But closed, I didn't receive any notifications in the notifications center.

So now with Windows 11, just testing the Outlook app out, it seems the "send notifications with outlook closed" setting in the Outlook app works.

With the outlook app closed (I assume it is still running in background), microsoft email account shows the notifications in notification center within a few seconds.

But, the gmail account doesn't. It shows notifications with outlook open, but not when closed unlike the microsoft account with the same settings applied.

Is there a way to make it work? Thanks.

Settings in Outlook app:

Why does that dropdown at the bottom not say "All accounts"?

On my app it states allow notifications for my Microsoft email account ([email protected]) and under the drop down box (the following account) my gmail account ([email protected]). Which I guess equals all since I only have two accounts... those two.

Nothing else appears when you click the dropdown? Mine says "All accounts" as I have a total of three.

When I click the drop down it just shows that gmail email address selected.

I have "All accounts" in the drop down box, and additionally 4 others in the drop down box which includes other MS Outlook accounts and Gmail accounts each with it's own tick box for notifications.

Untick one of those and it changes to "Multiple accounts".

Also you have to click Save at the bottom right to save changes, otherwise they are discarded.

With my two email accounts (M and G), if I untick that gmail email address box under the dropdown, it states "no accounts".

Seems like when you have just two accounts this is how it is I guess.

Added: I tried saving it as "no accounts" and then saving it with the gmail email selected under the dropdown but no dice - no notifications when closed.

I should say - no notifications when closed within at least 20 minutes. I don't know if i waited longer if they would come. But that would be way too long in any case. The Microsoft email account gives notifications within about 5 seconds (with outlook app closed).

I could just use Thunderbird minimized to taskbar to get notifications (could also make it launch at startup and auto minimize which I don't) and it has been what I have been doing (easy to accidentally close) but I was wondering if i could get this to work with outlook with it closed - always running in the background.

I recall in the past when using Windows mail on old Win 10 laptop with two email addresses that I believe it did the same.

Microsoft account gave notifications with windows mail "closed". Gmail account didn't.

I see it's not working consistently with the microsoft account either. I think i'm just gonna use thunderbird. Thanks.
