Hi all building a new computer I have a z170 with a 6600k and a gtx1070 and a corsair ax850 power supply 10 yr old working right now
I am building a asus z690 tuf ddr4 /i712700k and corsair vengeance lpx 2x16 for 32 gigs ram .i am also using the the ax 850 from the old build
I plug the 24 pin and the 8pin cpu cable and the gtx 1070 and front panel header the thing at the bottom right
try booting and it says no signal / its DisplayPort. but when I use the cpu DisplayPort I get into the bios. I dot change any thing and exit
when I try to start it up again the rgb lights come on on the motherboard but it will not start up it like its not getting power
I exchanged the z690 ram and cpu for new ones and it did the same thing. unplugged and repluged every thing over and over
so i put my z170 6600k back in and it works . am I missing something

If the inbuilt Intel graphics gets to the bios then there is probably a setting needed to enable the GTX1070
Try Graphics Configuration which should be under system agent configuration?

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 13 years?
I assume that your Asus motherboard is similar to mine: 4 colors of LED lights at bootup. Red for CPU, amber for RAM, white for graphics, and green. Once all have appeared in order, they all go out.

Is that what you're seeing?

The default BIOS setting for graphics should be automatic, which means that the graphics card should be recognized before the iGPU, if the monitor is plugged into the 1070. As you've used the 1070 before, you obviously know to use its PCI-E auxiliary power port.

I presume that you have the 1070 in the #1 PCI-E X16 slot. (The one nearest the CPU.)

Not good.

I suggest going into hardware troubleshooting.

Try booting with only the CPU and RAM installed. (Maybe just one stick of RAM, in the appropriate slot.) Connect the monitor to the motherboard. See if you can get into the BIOS. If you can, add components until it fails to boot.

Best of luck.

From my experience with Best Buy, if you don't also ask them to install it... they'll give you any sticks of RAM they have.
Generally though, Corsair RAM works on anything.

But... all this RAM has been tested to work on your board...

I picked the same DDR4, 3200Mhz frequency, with the tightest timings (fastest).

Note: If, at the end of your (Z690 TUF Gaming) board's model number there's a D4... then it's a DDR4 board.
ASUS also makes a Z690 TUF Gaming, DDR5 board with no D4 in the model number.

Right

Right. If you ever need warranty support from Intel for the CPU, admitting to running DDR4 above 3200MHz will void the warranty. (I had that happen due to admitting the use of DDR5 5600 RAM with a Gen12 CPU.)

It may be wisest to use RAM from the Asus qualified vendors list, although that can be limiting. Asus doesn't test all RAM that is currently on the market.

"rico" seems to be flailing. If the RAM is tested at the motherboard's default frequency (maybe 2133MHz), rather than using an XMP, that should eliminate most RAM compatibility issues. That's not a preferred solution, but it could be a useful step in troubleshooting.

I own too many laptops: A Dell touch screen with Windows 11 and 6 others (not counting the other four laptops I bought for this household.) Being a PC builder I own many desktop PCs as well. I am a father of five providing PCs, laptops, and tablets for all my family, most of which I have modified, rebuilt, or simply built from scratch. I do not own a cell phone, never have, never will.

You have to use all caps at work? That is odd. Do you work for a military contractor; I know they like all caps for some reason. And that is unfortunate because studies have shown that mixed case is most easily comprehended and faster for the mind to absorb.
