New Tab At Right End, Long Search

This is one of the assortments of problems remaining after the removal of the spam blocking my email, and I have no idea how to remove the "New Tab" at the right end of the top bar nor how to reduce the size of the search box. I cannot find any open space to click on the top bar to edit it. Help obviously welcome. I don't know where the two black boxes in the link came from, they are not in the original image. If need be, I could take a new capture with more space at the top and bottom.

You didn't mention what browser you are using. I think it is Firefox? If so,
Drag the new tab (+) button to the Customize palette window to remove this button from the tab bar.

Firefox it is. but I cannot drag the + anywhere; I have tried it several times, and nothing happens.

Nothing being easy, I found out how to move the +, you go to the 'modify toolbars' entry.

Sadly, the search bar moved up to take the place of the + sign! I shall investigate, but I wonder why this took place.

Thanks to your help, it is very nice to have what I call the tab bar, the one at the top where each tab I call for is shown by itself rather than the single such tab that contained all tabs called for in a single entry.

I have tried several times to move the search box from its new position at the right end of the tab bar to its own bar, with a grand total of zero successes.

I know I am being a pest, but I would certainly appreciate your help on this. The instructions about how to do this do not take into account the oddity of the search box being where it is. They say to either move it from the bar or move it from the collection of icons to the bar. When I try to move it, it does not. I am not even certain what bar is being referred to, but it is obviously not the tab bar, whatever its actual name might be.

I finally did something that I have been derelict in doing, by marking one of replies "Like." I know how nice it is to be thanked for providing service. I have thanked many veterans for their service, and some of them ask if I was military, to which I reply, `no, fire service,' and in turn most of them thank me for my service, much of which was as a voluntary basis, not just fighting fires, either.

Click the menu button , click More tools and choose Customize toolbar…A special tab will open which allows you to drag and drop items in or out of the overflow menu and the toolbar.
