AFAIK the file ExplorerPatcher.amd64.dll only is needed if you want to use Classic theme. Classic theme has been explained here:

The explanation he gave was to replace C:\Users\root\Downloads\ExplorerPatcher.amd64.dll with the path to your dxgi.dll or ExplorerPatcher.amd64.dll. So, if you don't want to experiment with ExplorerPatcher's ability to be registered as a shell extension, that would be your dxgi.dll, not ExplorerPatcher.amd64.dll, as he also wrote that dropping dxgi.dll in C:\Windows is still the preferred install method. As for using the taskkill /f /im command followed by start explorer.exe, that's needed to finalize the install whenever ExplorerPatcher has not yet been installed or has been uninstalled, whereas if the goal is to update─after it has already been installed─ExplorerPatcher to a newer version, then you could decide to use the batch script to achieve that goal, and, here's the link to my post where my modified batch script can be found:

Not working for me with 22000.282 update or the latest ExplorerPatcher version 22000.258.31.1 I confirm. Was able to get the clock back, but the WIn 10 taskbar is gone ! I'll temporarily uninstall KB 5007646

Have to correct you about taskkill command. valinet noted in the last release notes that taskkill is not a proper method to restart explorer, and recommend a new method. amd64.dll is the same as dxgi.dll Renamed for the purposes of easier copying into C:\Windows

Implemented a new exported function which restarts File Explorer cleanly, reloading your folder windows: rundll32 C:\Windows\dxgi.dll,ZZRestartExplorer (.4)

With regard to the method of restarting Explorer with valinet's ZZ restarter: we can accomplish the same result by using the Restart Explorer desktop context menu enhancement offered by Shawn Brink right here on 11Forum. Just select the "with pause" option.

Restarting Explorer via context menu entry can be handy, but in the case of ExplorerPatcher, command line is essential - Installing and updating is done with the script (command or powershell), and when running, you can restart Explorer from within EP - while changing options.

I suddenly found ExplorerPatcher playing up, search not working, shift and left click not bringing up the win11 menu. I also had trouble with Snipping tool not working and the store app giving errors or unresponsive. I updated ExplorerPatcher to the latest pre release 22000.282.32.5 and no change. It turned out I was being too clever and using Winaero Tweaker Classic Taskbar as well as ExplorerPatcher... Bad move... I reversed the changes in Winaero and everything is now working fine. I won't try to be clever again

Just another point when I use a new version of ExplorerPatcher I rename the version in use, drag the new version into windows, shift and right click and select restart explorer, for me it seems the quickest and easiest way and then restart when convenient. Sorry it's a long post

@AndreTen It was only a chance thing I found it. I had this idea after the symbol files were not available a little while back and ExplorerPatcher wouldn't work for a few days, to set up Winaero Tweaker to do the same that all worked fine until the next version of ExplorerPatcher was released then things went wrong but as I don't use that machine that often I didn't notice for a while as a lot of these faults have been well documented individually in different places

It works fine for me with Open-Shell, Battery Mode and TranslucentTB (Store app). There's just this one small glitch, but I managed to produce a workaround:

ExplorerPatcher is working fine on all my machine but all 3 have different versions as one hasn't been updated yet, the other as got 22000.283.32.5 as I was tinkering with Winaero tweaker and ExplorerPatcher which ended in disaster so I grabbed the pre release and reversed the changes in Winaero so all is good again. I really think it is such a brilliant program

You can place this dxgi.cmd wherever you want and run it as Administrator right after downloading a new version of dxgi.dll.
