New Version of ExplorerPatcher

@valinet is this a known bug?
I agree it is a bug which I myself have tried to eliminate via code review and compiling it myself but so far without success. Some discussions about it can be read at Support for builds 22621 and 22622 (Windows 11 22H2) · Issue #1082 · valinet/ExplorerPatcher.

Show cmd instead of PowerShell in Win+X. Actually, it never worked properly in Windows 11. Will be removed and left as an option only on Windows 10. Removed from all Windows 11 builds, remains on Windows 10 where it actually works
The links/shortcuts to Windows Powershell should not be there. Only corresponding links to Windows Terminal should be visible. One way to get rid of them is to delete the two shortcuts to Windows Powershell located at:
C:\Users\Default\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WinX\Group3
Then you will however also remove the Windows Terminal commands...

Somehow it feels related to that you cannot any longer manipulate those right-click commands yourself by edit the links under:
C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WinX\Group3
It was possible in Win10 and early Win11 but not any longer.

I installed Windows update (KB5018496) and upon restart my screen keeps appearing and disappearing as it does when EP installs an update and restarts. If I connect remotely, it stops, but the next time I restart the laptop, the same thing happens. Uninstalling that update fixes it. I'm installing the update on one of my desktops now to see if the same thing happens.

The same thing happened on my desktop. It's as if EP is restarting over and over. Remote connection stops it and uninstalling (KB5018496) fixes the issue.

Had the same issue, had to boot in safe mode , uninstall explorerpatcher, reboot and install again and then it was ok. But I ended up uninstalling altogether this update because I found it was slowing everything on my laptop

Ok, I was not so lucky with my desktop. Uninstalling that update did not fix things. It broke Windows. I tried using System Restore to fix it. Didn't work. Tried starting in safe mode to uninstall EP and even that was flashing and unusable. Fortunately, I backup everything once a week so I went to my last resort of restoring my system drive from Sunday's backup. All I ended up losing were emails from today.

I am sorry for this, this Windows update was a huge mess after all. You post made me questioning my backup methods (only my files, no system backup)

I've uninstalled EP, ran the update and then installed EP again and it's working fine. Yeah, I backup my system and data disk on both desktops once a week and the system disk on my laptop as well. I don't often need to restore the system disk, but as you saw here, it saved me, which is why I'm religious about doing these backups. You never know when you will need them.

Ah, stumbled across another sort-of-issue with that auto update batch file - the versions actually go backwards :)

Installed version 22622.450.50.2 (7th August)
Latest version 22621.608.51.3 (22 days ago)

Because 22621 is less than 22622 currently it's not getting updated (still works though)

Changing the GEQ to EQU when comparing versions is a workaround, so that it just checks whether the version is equal to the latest and not whether it's greater.
Edit: You also have to be careful to make sure not to leave a space after "ExplorerPatcherVersion=%%A" as I did when debugging...

On Windows 11 you can easily mount ISO by right clicking on the file using the internal W11 functionality.
On W11 with explorerpatcher and W10 explorer "right click" features, I don't get the option on mounting ISO.
Is there a way to work around, except using Powershell to mount ISO?

(I need ISO access to upgrade W11 to 22H2 as my computer is not certified for W11 (Lenovo P51 with i7-7820HQ))...

By default, doubleclicking an ISO file mounts it in Windows 10/11. I use WinRAR so the default action for opening ISO files is set to WinRAR for me, but I can still right-click on an ISO file and choose Open with | File Explorer. Doing this causes the file to be mounted, and a new File Explorer window pops open which displays the actual content of the (root location of the) virtual drive. After that, under This PC the virtual drive's right-click context menu has an Eject option that can be used for unmounting the ISO file.

Hello,

I have a issue, maybe someone can help me or point me in the right direction:

When I right clicked on a hard drive under "computer", the explorer crashed. I asumed it was from the EP, I uninstalled it and tried again: it is still crashing and some other minor bugs, like right click on Start is not working, only when I do it 2 times fast in a row.

I tried following steps:

But to no success.

How can I make the right click on hard drive work an? Right click on normal files works, but it is showing the "advanced" right click menu directly, not the simplified right click menu first.

Thank you, have a good sunday

I have Windows 11 22H2 runnig explorer patch and it does not crash when right on a hard drive under "computer". I also do not have any issue with the start menu. As you face problems after unistalling EP, you may want to seek the resolution elsewhere.

Just did a registry cleanup, I can rightclick again on hard drives. Installed EP: cant click on hard drives.

So it is 100% EP.

Registry cleaners are notorious for causing additional problems. A problem existing outside of EP can potentially have no negative impact that may be noticed until you decide to install EP, and, as a matter of fact, this also holds true for a lot of other programs besides EP. Installing EP affects the behavior of your computer so the behavior outcome of some problems may also be affected by it, like, causing the symptoms of a problem to become visible again after your registry cleaner had cleared these symptoms, but it never managed to solve the actual root cause of the problem.

Agree, the best way to clean the registry is to "Reinstall Windows" keeping the "files and applications". This have miraculously rescued several installs for me.
Moreover, please make sure you are using the most recent version of EP-patcher and a supported Windows release. (Ie if you are on beta or severly outdated, you may need to prepare yourself to trouble-shoot).

Exactly. But keeping applications (and settings) when doing an In-Place Upgrade to repair your installation of Windows does not necessarily always solve all these kinds of problems, as problems may still persist, e.g. if one or more of these applications, settings, driver installations, etc. turn out to be the real culprit, which is still a possible scenario that might occur depending on what exactly it is you have installed on Windows. That is, even though this method can definitely be very well worth giving a try. In any event, making an image of your Windows partition so that it can later be restored from a backup medium if/when needed tends to be a valuable timesaver. Most users shudder the thought of having to do a clean install of Windows which wipes out all applications and updated drivers that you have installed, and puts all settings back at their defaults so that's why. Another excellent example of why this can be so important comes from the observation that testing software on a "non clean" installation of Windows doesn't necessarily always give reliable test results, and then things can get mashed up pretty badly sometimes. Windows is inherently vague enough for one to not want to have to deal with too many extraneous factors having been splayed across it before attempting to investigate various stuff in a context that already is rather elusive anyway to begin with.

I've disabled the new Context Menu - working with the old Win10 instead. Worked well. But since Win11 22H2 the OneDrive entries are missing.
But in the Win11-Original-Context-Menu they are visible.
Therefor: Is there way the open the new context menu from within the old context menu (e.g., as a sub entry)?

Currently, I've to enable the new context menu in the settings - do what I want to do with the new context menu - and then re-disable the new cotext menu in the EP settings.

I tried to reproduce what you write and failed. I was using the Win11 Original and the " Move to Onedrive" option was for me was in the extended "show more options" menu. I deactivated the win11 to get directly the old Win10 and entry for Onedrive is still there. You have to google how you manage to refresh/reset the the win11 context menu. so that Onedrive entries become again part of the extended menu. I don't think Explorerpatcher can do something for you.

I know, that the problem with the missing OneDrive-Entries in the old Context Menu has nothing to do with ExplorerPatcher. There are many other users with same problems (but no solutions) that don't use EP.
But: To work around the problem with the missing entries, it would be nice, if in the Old Context Menu an entry would lead to the "new context menu" ... for those cases, where the new context menu is the better option (like the OneDrive-Bug).
