You are right again! I used it long time and forgot that updating is a separate function, which may (or may not) be installed during setup. Unlike many other software, where update is built-in and always available. Initially I selected only Menu and excluded all other components. But now I have it too :-)

At glance, I noticed two problems:
1. Left-click on Wi-Fi icon in notification area opens the Wi-Fi UI (I use the setting Windows 11 style), but the second click on this icon re-opens UI instead of closing. As a result, it blinks. To close, need to click somewhere outside. Besides this, setting Control Center doesn't work at all, while Windows 10 style works as expected.
2. Copyright still shows 2006-2025.

I installed the pre release by mistake. Crashed explorer. Reverted to the stable version. All is well.

Crashes in Explorer Patcher usually happen when you install the latest version (either standard or pre-release) on a system with missing Windows updates. To avoid that make sure you install all Windows updates first and then update Explorer Patcher. Once File Explorer was stuck in a launch-crash loop. To fix it I had to kill the process from Task Manager and then uninstall Explorer Patcher. Once I installed all Windows updates I installed the latest version of Explorer Patcher and it was OK.

Microsoft introduces changes to the start menu and explorer with new code or deprecation of legacy code that breaks Explorer Patcher. You have two options: stay on the last stable Windows it ran on and wait for it to get updated or uninstall Explorer Patcher and live with the new Microsoft start menu.

Option three: postpone upgrade to new version until Explorer Patcher finds a workaround, hopefully it won't take very long.

BUG REPORT:

I just discovered that an old bug that had been fixed reappeared after updating Explorer Patcher to the latest version. The bug is that when using Explorer Patcher together with Open Shell and you click on the search icon, the taskbar color switches from the custom color of Open Shell to the default Windows 11 color (the one you would have without running Open Shell). To fix this you must do a change, such as switch from search icon/box to box/icon and then back or to add/remove the task switch button from Explorer Patcher taskbar settings. Not something serious, but it is pity as it had been resolved in the previous versions.

PS: Needless to say that for all of us that customize the network icons we have to do it again after the upgrade as the respective file is replaced and the icons return to the default Windows 11 network icons.

Windows 11 works fine. If you set it to Windows 10, it crashes. A known issue because Microsoft is retiring legacy code that made the Windows 10 mode possible. EP has nothing to hook into. The developer is working on a fix.

I have mine set to Windows 10 style taskbar without any problems.

I am not sure if I have Windows 11 or Windows 10 Taskbar style in Explorer Patcher because I change it with Open Shell anyway. I will try th other way around. Have you tried to click on the search icon? Does the Taskbar color remains the same or changes? You might not notice any difference if you use the default Windows 11 color anyway. The bug is seen if you have modified the default color in Open Shell settings.
