If Terminal is suitable for what you need, right click the Windows Start Button and there are two shortcut to Terminal with and without Admin rights.

Yes. Because the File Explorer might be stuck in a crash loop. Better uninstall Explorer Patcher, upgrade and then reinstall it. Same for upgrading to a higher version such as 26H2, unless you use 26H2 Enablement Package. This should not require to remove Explorer Patcher first.

If you run PowerShell execute cmd to switch to Command Prompt. When done execute exit to return to PowerShell and exit again to close PowerShell.

Check this in yours to ensure you're looking at the right one:

If you don't have IsShortcut, then add it.

Then at least restart file explorer, possibly restart, then see if Pin to Start appears.

I was not clear in my last post about IsShortcut. What I meant to say is that I don't have the "Inkfile" key at all in my Registry.

I can add it, and the IsShortcut, but what about the other entries under "HKCR\Inkfile" that you show. FYI, in Settings>Personalization>taskbar>SystemTrayIcons, my PenMenu is turned off. But turning it on did not change things in the Registry.

I can enter a key, Inkfile, and add IsShortcut to it, but do I need to do anything about the other keys you seem to have under it?

Hope that makes sense--I am not too conversant with the terms in the Registry.

I checked, and I am a user with administrative rights
The computer is mine.
The computer came from LG with 11 Home, and I upgraded it to Pro.

open C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu
create the CMD shortcut (%windir%\system32\cmd.exe) under Start Menu or Start Menu\Programs

Just to make sure I understand what you suggested, here' what I did. I I went to %windir%\system32\, right-clicked on cmd.exe, clicke on "Create shortcut", placed it on the desktop, and then copied that into C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Men. I restarted the laptop.
Is what I did correct? I don't see anything different in the Start menu, nor pined to Start.

Yes, you did it correct (a different way of what I suggested with same results)
On Win 11 start isn't it under C letter?
I suggest you install Open Shell

It's not listed with other programs under "C". However, when I typed "C" when I started "Start" (i.e., to search), it showed Command Prompt, I right-clicked, and "Pinned to start. It said that it had been pinned to start, I restarted the laptop, but there was no Cmd pinned.
I will try Ghot's suggestion to do an In-Place update next. If I install OpenShell as you suggest, should I first uninstall ExplorerPatcher, or can they play nicely together?

I have both Open Shell and Explorer Patcher. They generally play nice together. Latest Explorer Patcher has a minor bug, when I click on Search icon the color of the Taskbar changes from my custom color (set in Open Shell) to the Windows default. This is annoyingly darker than the accent color I have set in Windows Color settings. To see my custom color again I have to make a small change in Explorer Patcher, such as toggle search icon to search box and back again. This was an old bug that had been fixed but returned after updating Explorer Patcher to latest version. Hopefully it will be fixed again at some newer version.

Go to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu. Is the CMD shortcut still there?
I also have both Open Shell and Explorer Patcher. Never seen any bug on them.

Please notice the Snipping toll just below the Start Menu (Windows). I have inserted the shortcut as I have described above

Thanks for your detailed instructions, which I followed. Here is what the inkfile key now looks like:

However, I still do not have any entries for .ink:

In terms of pinning items to Start, I have been able to do so for Windows tools, Control Panel, and Run.

But not for Cmd, Regedit, Services and Powershell. In all these, I have tried to pin directly from the app, as well as from a shortcut. Even when it says that Windows has pinned it to Start, it has not done so.
