New WorkloadsSessionHost Processes consuming RAM

I now have a few WorkloadsSessionHost.exe processes chewing up ~ 1GB of RAM. I think it started after the latest May update. I also have two processes that I can't kill, aixhost.exe and aihost.exe. I've determined that those two processes are tied to "Recall", I found them being launched from "C:/Windows/SystemApps/MicrosoftWindows.Client.AIX_cw5n1h2txyewy/FirstRunExperience/Assets/", where I also found a "webm" instructional video for "Recall".

The thing is, I don't have "Recall" enabled and I don't have the option to enable it because I use a local account to log in (it indicates that I need to use a Microsoft account to enable). I also have the slider disabled for "Click To Do". I've also added a registry key, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\ClickToDo\"DisableClickToDo"=dword:00000001 in order to disable it. Before I did this, the "NPU" seemed like it was very active, despite the "Click To Do" not being enabled. Additionally, I do not have Office installed, nor do I have any virtualization running.

However, every restart, the two processes are starting and the WorkloadsSessionHost processes are eating my RAM and the AI processes are starting.

Anyone seeing anything similar?

You haven't filled in the information about the computer, click My Computer to do so. Right-click the Windows button/Start and open System to get the information. Generally Win11 has sufficient RAM and having a program using only 1GB isn't a problem.

I know that 1GB isn't a ton; but it is 1GB running for nothing. Basically the WorkloadsSessionHost is starting for a service that I have no intention of running. I just rolled back "kb5058411" and the processes no longer exist.

So now I know, kb5058411 added all this crap that is basically running idle because I don't want to use the service. I guess the question is, does anyone else see this behavior? I'll eventually need to update again. Are people that use the Microsoft account to log in, are they seeing the same problem? I wonder if it is something that is overlooked for people using local accounts.

It is Windows 11 Home.

I wonder if it has something to do with my system having an NPU. Without the AI stuff enabled, the NPU was really active when I had the Windows Update installed. The thing that I don't like is that it eats the battery. Well that is the other thing that I don't like. I don't want to waste resources.

I've also noticed this recently since about the middle of May 2025. I'm on a laptop and my battery life has gone from 10-12 hrs on a full charge down to around 3 hrs on a full charge. I've also disabled Recall through the "Turn Windows features on or off".

WorkloadsSessionManager.exe using 60% NPU constanly and I can't tell what it is doing other than it is part of Windows AI Workloads. I'm not running anything other than Firefox so there is no reason it should be running constantly.

I have OneNote 2013 with Office 2013 and OneNote for Windows 10 on my Win11 Desktop computer running RTM Version 24H2 Build 26100.4202 that was last updated May 29 with previous updates on 5/13, no equivalent file found by Search. There may be a new update next Tuesday or in Windows language Patch Tuesday. I do not have anything running related to AI/CoPilot. None of my Win11 Notebooks have Office.

I disabled Click To Do in the windows privacy settings and rebooted. That didn't do it, still had the WorkloadsSessionHost running and using up NPU.

I ended up doing what /u/Boring-Ad-9620 did in this thread:
Disabled the WSAIFabricSvc service from running at boot. This looks like the NPU is now idle. For my case, I don't care if this disabled all AI features.

I now see a 10 hr battery remaining at 79% battery! That'll do.

I'm reading that WSAIFabricSvc was introduced in Windows Update KB5055523. This update was installed on my laptop on April 9, 2025. I could have not noticed that battery usage until recently though when the more recent Windows update enabled Recall and Click To Do.

I noticed this too. I couldn't find the task in Task Scheduler to disable. It seems to trigger at each start up. The only thing I could find to abate that RAM drain was to go to the Task Manager, Click on the App Name to list the names in reverse alphabetical order, EndTask for the App named "WorkloadSessionManager," first, then EndTask on the remaining WorkloadSessionHost apps running. It seems that the former app (i.e., Manager) triggers the "Host" apps running in the background. Although this method will clear it and stop the apps from restarting, it has to be done at each start up, which is a hassle, but works. If anyone can find the name of the actual task in the Task Scheduler, please share. I'd like to disable the trigger in place on WorkloadSessionManager.
